That start is as good as any.  It's not like wordle where some letters are more common than others.  It is the one I have been using every day because it uses as many different numbers as possible.  And as mentioned eliminating numbers is gold.
The strategy really starts from guess #2 once you have that base information.
Here is my approach.

Priority #1 - locating the equals sign.  If it isn't a two digit answer, my second guess generally assumes a single digit.
Priority #2 - turning purple numbers green.  Always use all the purple digits you have in a new location.  If you get more black squares in your next guess than your previous, you've made a mistake.  (Guess #5 above).
Priority #3 - finding the operations.  If it wasn't addition, I will generally go for something in the form of  a x b - c
Priority #4 - eliminating untried numbers.  Given 12+35=47, that leaves four other digits: 6,8,9,0 to mix in (depending on how many unknowns you have)
Priority #5 - looking for numbers used multiple times.

I do the same. I have a fixed first guess which is similar to that and uses 6 different numbers and 2 symbols so seems as good as anything to start with. Today it ruled out a lot of numbers so by process of elimination I managed to get it on the 2nd go.

Edit: Removed what my actual first guess is so it doesn't give anything away as I'd shared my result in the previous post.

For wordle I don't have one fixed first guess, but have a few different words I cycle through with the most common letters, usually trying to use 2 or 3 vowels.
