I would like to bring to peoples attention a very good first person shooter game set in the old west, i.e cowboys and is called Smokin Guns, it is a totally free game that uses the quake 3 graphics engine so almost any computer will be powerful enough, if your computer is less than 10 years old then assume it will work good. It is available for windows and linux. This game is designed as a multiplayer game, the only way to play by yourself offline is against players controlled by the computer. I think it is a very well balanced game. There is a New Zealand based internet server to play on, all servers can be seen within the game but monster browser is recommended so you can see which servers contain human players rather than not knowing if the server has bots or humans before you connect to it.

+1. Really nice wild west feel. All the basics done well. Beginners can still have fun. Not too addictive.. ; ).

Oh thank goodness there is an offline mode. I play enough LoL, Halo, and the like that I am starting to dislike people...even more then normal!

I'm sure you will find some servers with a crowd more to your liking, I know where you are coming from and think you might be pleasantly surprised.

I've looked at this before but never actually got it. It's available for Ubuntu from the playdeb repositories but they haven't added support for 13.04 yet (that I can see).

edit - Change that getdeb and playdeb have been discontinued but there is a repository for the game here.

I have it on Lubuntu 12.04, I'm a linux newbie so lucky it was very easy to install.
