Hey guys,

After a new mouse as my Logitech track ball is getting a little bit old and not as responsive as it once was.

Need a new/another mouse, was wanting any advice on good models.

Needs to be good for gaming but also usable for normal PC use. Would prefer a few extra buttons - Track ball has 2 for instance.

So far been looking at the Saitek Cyborg R.A.T 7 Gaming Mouse, $118 at JB HIFI.

Any advice would be awesome cheers.

I am using the Logitech G700s and it's quite precise and easy on your hand.

G700s would be my pick. Plenty of macroable buttons, feels great, can be used wired or wireless. Oh, unless you're left handed - it's not symmetrical, so may be less comfortable.

Am I the only left handed person that actually uses the mouse with the right hand?

Which trackball mouse do you use? I actually quite prefer Logitech M570 (Unifying) for general usage as well as gaming... I may also looking at getting Logitech G13 gaming keypad or Razer Orbweaver.

I am selling my G700s for 90 bucks if you are interested. I bought it about a month ago.

You can store many (5??) profiles on their (one for gaming, one for normal computer use etc).

It has about 13 buttons I think.

You can pick it up here in Auckland if you are interested (PM me if you are indeed interested).

nope, gaming left handed is very awkward..

the g700 is rather shaped to the right hand too.. unlike the horrid system in the g930 (inwhich the cable is purely for charging) the g700 is great, use it wirelessly, directly, or both it really doesnt matter.

if you do go with a g700, ild suggest you use setpoint2 if you wish to set macros of any sort, the gaming center logitech are moving to is quite a step back in functionality.

I also use the M570, which I think is great! But for gaming (specifically FPSs) it isn't quite as good as a standard mouse.

Strangely enough. I love using my m570 but then I don't really play FPS, mostly Hack-Slash or MMORPG, otherwise using gamepad controller.

I use the Logitech G400 (I think the model number is M-U0028), they are relatively cheap and work quite well. It doesn't have the weight and mouse lag of a wireless mouse. I use it on most of the default settings but have acceleration on max (so can move fast across the screen) and the scroll wheel set to 3 lines.

I think any of the mice mentioned above are ideal, it is a matter of personal taste. I found the G400 fits my hand well and has non-plastic texture on the side grips.

I really think this depends on what sort of gaming you're doing.
I've owned the G9 and G9x, which were AMAZING mice, but after both of them dying on me just after a year of use, I decided to get a cheap Gigabyte GM-M6880 early this year as a replacement.

When I bought it, it was about US$15 incl shipping. So about NZ$20. Reason was that it had pretty much all I needed. DPI switching (on-the-fly), and the extra side buttons for browsing (I use these A LOT).

I don't play any FPS games, so after getting used to this cheap mouse, I actually found it really good to use and the DPI to be more than sufficient.

Of course, you don't get the macros or the ability to reprogram the buttons (or have different profiles), but as I only play MOBAs and MMOs, the macro keys on my keyboard were more than sufficient to meet my needs.

My one advice is to check Newegg and Amazon for reviews on mice before you purchase them! The RATs don't do quite so well in the customer reviews on either of these sites.

Hope this helps you!

My one advice is to personally check out any mouse you are considering buying and see how it feels in your hand. Hand size, type of grip you use, and finger length can make a huge difference and what suits one person may be completely wrong for another person.

I had a R.A.T 9 and while it suited my hand well, I hated it. I'm into RPG's and when I'm gaming I can play for hours on end. The 9, being wireless, had the added weight of a battery and got too heavy. I replaced it with a R.A.T. 7 and love it. However, I also have a Razor Abyssus. It is not customisable like the R.A.T and has fewer macros however its a nice fit, fast, and is easy to use for everyday use as well as gaming. The R.A.T isn't - it's great for my type of gaming and is adjustable for my smaller hand but its pretty horrid to use as a general purpose mouse. The Abyssus does both.

If you want a mouse purely for gaming, and if the R.A.T 7 suits your hand (something you won't know unless you handle one) it's a pretty decent mouse. But, like venomio said, you should do some research before deciding on what you will buy.

I tend to take mouse reviews with a grain of salt. Unless people state the kind of gaming they do and what size hand they have, and what grip they use, it's hard to see the relevance of the review. Research is still needed though.

Logitech G400 is the best bang for buck aka price/performance option imo.

Also a tip for setting up a new mouse: Get a ruler and a piece of paper and measure the horizontal distance you need to move for common actions in your favourite games with your old mouse, eg: in an fps/rpg do a 360, or to move the cursor a certain distance in a rts.

Now you have a benchmark that you can use to configure your new mouse software and/or game settings with so the same physical movement corresponds to roughly the same game movement with the new mouse.
