This should be pretty interesting as it should get the PC back to competing with consoles and being a media center. now i just wonder when it's going to be released and when can i get my hands on it.

No wonder half life 3 is nowhere in sight.
Looks interesting though. Game streaming is a pretty cool and novel way to make sure you can play all your existing games without having to wait until all titles are ported over.
Wonder if it is ubuntu based? Might have to ressurect one of the old shuttles here and set up a steam center.

With both consoles being programmed for x86, it seems now one of the best times to be a Windows gamer. I think Valve is pretty worried about the future of Windows, since 95% of their business is reliant on it...but I'm really not interested in running a Linux box to play games. I like my windows machine because it does everything I need, including gaming.

I'm not a media center guy though, so maybe I just don't get it, I guess I would be interested in a console experience with the price competitiveness of the Steam market place, most of the Steam games I buy are from Amazon, Green Man Gaming, Humble Bundle and are significantly cheaper than even Steam's sale prices, which I play with my Xbox 360 controller on a laptop connected to the TV.

I just want the PS4 to be hacked to run Windows...

I'm very interested in the streaming concept. Having a beast PC hidden in a cupboard/garage where it's free to make noise, take up space and look like nasty, but accessing it via a small fanless atom PC in the lounge sounds like a damn good idea to me.

That way I get all the benefits of being able to custom build a PC, and also the benefits of having a tiny fanless small form factor box.

Edit: I do worry that this feature creep may turn steam into nasty bloat ware like iTunes.

The Steam OS looks...interesting. Alongside AMD's Mantle there will definitely be a huge shift in PC gaming over the next few years (for our benefit I hope!) what I also find interesting is the steam box itself's specs. I believe there are about 3 performance tiers (the top one being announced as having an Nvidia Titan and a i7 3770(k?) in it?) so we may also see a substantial drop in PC hardware..maybe! Regardless of how it plays out we've all got our Nintendo 64s and copies of Goldeneye ready to weather the storm
