Hey guys!

So i just made me a USA psn account and am starting to purchase a few games. Its just so much cheaper and there are some cool little promotions, for example, for every $50 you spend in the PS store, you receive $10 credit. I plan to preorder some PS3/PS4 games and just started thinking.

If i download a USA digital copy of COD: Ghosts, will i be stuck with USA players? So when i find games, will it put me into USA servers on NZ servers? Especially now that COD has dedicated servers. My question is towards all games by the way.

I have been doing the same with Xbox 360 games and I get thrown in mostly with NZ or Australia gamers. It's not the game where you purchased it from that decides your connectivity (it can be hard coded but it will be retarded indeed). The servers or the netcode in the game checks your region via IP you are coming from and goes from there to try it's best to connect you with the closest gamers.

I buy lots of games from the UK and US PSN stores and play on my NZ PSN. From experience, just about all games are not region locked, the only one I've ever come across was Gotham City Impostors, but I bought the US version anyway because I had a higher ping with EU players.

PS4 is supposed to be region free and not region locked online, it depends on the game itself though. I doubt CoD:G will force you to play with only your game's region, they've never done that before.

I am from the UK but luckily both UK and NZ are the same region (NZ games are SCEE). Only this to be careful of is some add on content is region locked, think Pro Evo soccer did and Unchartered 2 so if you buy the game in NZ, just check the content will work from the USA store otherwise just buy both the game and content from the USA store :)

You would need a USA credit card and address.

For example with me as I have a UK card and my family live in the UK I have a UK itunes and PSN, I also have a NZ itunes for NZ music not released in the UK. I never bothered with a NZ PSN as the UK one always seems to be better.

true, i have set up a usa psn. Its the best and turns out to be cheaper in all aspects. Has cheaper games, dlc, psn+ membership and it also runs some great promotions. For example last month they had one in which for every $50 you spend on the psn store you get back $10 (All US). Ended up with free $50 as i purchased all my psn games and membership for next game.

Anyway USA PSN FTW!!

Hmm I presume setting up a USA PSN Account means setting up all over again and loss of all the information from your NZ Account ?

I need a nice simple cheap and easy way to get a USA CC though.

rather than a credit card, i just purchase psn cards from amazon as they have digital instant delivery. :) They are also accepting NZ credit cards..

Woo, didn't know Amazon did it, that makes the job much easier! I'd been using a 3rd party outfit who just sent you pictures of the scratched off cards, seemed reputable thankfully.

I bought GTA5 from the USA store for something like NZ$80, less actually given that I already had a spare US$20 sitting on my account leftover. No issues so far.

Recovering the account takes some very careful wording to their support people as I found out though :)

You can't use virtual creditcards to pay for PSN either (e.g. Entropay) - Sony block them somehow. The cards work just fine.

FWIW - I've also got HongKong and UK accounts. I got Hong Kong instead of China because for some reason, despite the fact it's the same store, HongKong lets you select "English" whereas China does not.

There was a reason for it at the time, I've not used either of them in years though.

Some games are only available to download from the US. Also I see that when you go into the US PSN site, many of the games can only be downloaded from the Sony PSN store, different site. Would I need an account with the PSN store and with the Sony store also?

to access the US store from your playstation, this would allow you to install apps like netflix/hulu etc.

I did this on my PS3, very curious to see if the amazon download codes for ps4 games work on the nz consoles/store.... way cheaper to buy them that way USD$60 compared to what NZD$108.... (even if u add GST and convert it, USD$60 is about NZD$82, so we're getting ripped off...)
