Hi community, I am building a rig for Sketchup 3D editing and playing the following games:

  1. Day of Defeat
  2. Frozen Throne Dota
I am looking for a good value CPU/Mobo combo to go with the following:

  • G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB Single DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
  • Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD7850 Overclocked 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E3.0
  • Microsoft windows 7 home prem 64bit OEM
  • Crucial V4 SSD 128GB
  • Thermaltake Xaser V Case
  • Corsair CX430M 430W PSU
  • CD/DVDRW

Yes, the Case (already with optical drives) is quite old but I'd rather use it then purchase a newer one. I will probably ask the store to put the parts together just to be on the safe side.

Looking forward to the suggestions/prices...much appreciated guys.

Gerald

Asus M5A97 R2.0 & FX-6300 might be worth looking at, should overclock well. Good bang for buck apparently.

you could probs run frozen throne on an old P2 lol, your main issue here would be compatibility and not performance (unless you want over 9000fps) so you dont need anything overly grunty, a few hundy on TM should get you something that can do the job and in laptop form if you'd be that way inclined.

Thanks for the suggestion. Before purchasing anything, I guess I need to be careful regarding possible compatibility issues...would all the components be compatible with the suggested combo?

So do I if you want to spend the extra but he asked for good value and the AMD combo's fit that criteria.

I was looking for a similar good value combo set up last night and went with an AMD combo purely on value for money because whati tis going to be used for doesn't need a higher priced Intel CPU.

My 2c - shouldn't discount AMD for a budget build.

The Asus MB and AMD CPU is a popular combo for budget builds. If you haven't got the RAM already, I'd also suggest you investigate the benefits of 2x4GB sticks instead of 1x8GB.

Also, if you're thinking of overclocking (or even if you want a quieter system) you should consider (1) an aftermarket cooler over the stock and (2) a higher capacity PSU.

Yup, as above - without a doubt intel CPUs are better at the mid-high end of the budget, but at the lower end (as well as HTPCs) I think AMD is definitely still in the running, especially with their more recent releases.
