So I want to do something which on the surface seemed quite simple.

I have an Xbox Gamertag tied to the same MS ID that I use for some business related stuff. So I decided to setup a personal specific gaming outlook.com address and move my gamertag to it.

With my new outlook.com address configured, I logged into the XBOX website and low and behold without consulting me, it adds a randomly generated gamertag to my MSID.

After hunting around for an hour on various sites looking for a way, I find someone frustratedly saying he had to call MS and spent an hour on the phone but the issue is finally sorted.

I found a link to arrange a callback since it's after hours in NZ Xbox Support Land and to my surprise 2 minutes later my phone rings and a MS Support person takes an account of my issue and then proceeds to try and fix it.

after 20 minutes of her clearly not having any idea what I was trying to do including 2 x 5 minute conferences with a colleague, I lose patience and ask for a supervisor. She promptly transfers me and the supervisor carefully listens and says, sure, I can help
you with this, I need to make a support request to our most senior people. The plus side of doing this, he informs me, is that the normal 30 day stand down to remove an account and transfer an account will be waived, but there can be a 7 day wait for them to action the request.

Great I say. he gives me a case number and everything is done in about 5 minutes.

The following morning I have an email from Sarah, from MS Support informing me, the process will take 60-90 days depending on the number of steps, despite me being told by both the supervisor, and anecdotally via people on xbox forum posts, that this is something they can do quickly in the back end.

How can removing a gamertag I didn't ask to be added, take 30 days, and then need to wait another 30 days to move my gamer tag to the now empty MS ID. I decided to then delete the account and recreate it, but apparently if you close a outlook.com address, it's not available again for 90 days anyways!

So frustrating.

Is there anything I can do ?

As far as I'm aware you're allowed one free gamertag change per account and it can be done directly from your xbox

nathan: does this support article help at all?

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/my-account/manage-gamertag-and-profile/switch-gamertag-to-different-microsoft-account

Thanks. That is the process, the problem is that every step requires a 30 day waiting period before the next step can occur... So:

30 days before changes can be made once the new gamertag has been downloaded to a new device, then 2 x 30 day waits for the two gamertag changes.

If MS would remove the gamertag they put on my new MS account without asking me, the whole process would take 30 days instead.

I tried escalating it, but I got sent the standard scripted messages, but it's unbelievable to me they don't have something that could be done.

Would not be so bad if the X1 had the functionality, but no eta for that, and that means to complete this I have to keep my 360 for at least 90 days!
