hey guys ive got my daughters sims 3 installed on my pc, and want to put it on her computer, can i install origin on that and re down it to that computer?
Yes you can, you can probably only access that specific origin account from 1 computer at a time however.
Also rather than re-download the entire game find the folder where the game is stored (ie C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games) and copy the folder to a USB stick etc and on the other computer install origin, start the download, close origin, copy files to that directory and reopen origin and it should realize it has whats needed and install.
hmm that sounds good, i now need to move sims from my windows drive which is tiny to my games drive and figure out how to do that shes bought expansion packs!
Once you've done that it's as easy as getting her to login under her credentials and then right click > download the game, Origin should automatically just do an install.

I tried that when I upgraded my PC.... didnt work for me on any of the games I had via Origin - had to download them all again :( Wonder if it was because I went from a 32bit system to 64bit that it didnt like it for some reason. Steam worked quite happily.

I made the mistake of signing up my daughter to her own Origin account with her real birthday. This did not allow us to login and change her password or buy anything from origin or create a sims 3 account for the extra content.
The only way to get into origin was through the client as the website requires a email address which you dont have on a child account. Dumb.
I talked to the EA guys online and they changed the Sims 3 from her account to mine problem solved!
If your children are under 16 then put in a false age as they can't logon with an email address and access the other Sims 3 features like installing extra content.
Very frustrating as this is not explained on signing up lol

You might've needed to put it in the other "Program Files" folder.
Moving or reinstalling Origin after a format is a nightmare.
Even if you keep all the files and folders in their original locations you pretty much still need to redownload the entire games, even if you have the CD/DVD !!!
The download is a lot faster if you keep the game dir the same but it still takes forever (I did not monitor the usage).
Completely "reinstalling" (aka downloading) BF3 and BF4 took about 2 days and 50GB off my usage !
The Origin help is no help and there seems to be lots or people struggling, and proposed options (like unplugging your internet to force download off the DVD) do not work.
If anyone has a better way I would be very keen to know.
^^user error, I know it's rude to say but I've had no issues with BF3&4 or any origin titles moving it across multiple PC's. Like I said in my first post it's generally successful if you begin downloading the game first then exiting origin and copying files over then relaunching origin, if it fails to detect anything (ie download % not rapid climbing) then you put the game folder in the wrong place.
Another option is to make a symbolic link in the origin folder pointing to the new directory location(handy for installs with small SSD's for the OS drive where you may have first installed Origin or the game to and now want it on another drive)
I have done it a couple of times now, once on the same machine moving from win7 32 to win7 64, ok this might have required a resinstall. And the other moving to a new PC, win7 64, win7 64, no excuse!
The only thing I can think of is that I do not have Origin installed to the default C: location.
