Hey guys,

I have some free time with Dying Light release put back and Infamous Second Son is short, I am looking to fill some gaps in my gaming history and wondered if it is worth playing through them all for the story or shall I just pick up the latest. I'm sticking to PlayStation and PC games as I don't own a DS or Vita for the portable versions unless they are in the PS store.

God of war 1, 2 and 3, haven't played any, was going to just pick up the 3rd but was told the story is really good to follow?

I've played Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 but never played 3 and 4, worth doing or skip and get 5 Ground Heroes?

Witcher 1 and 2, worth playing or skip and get 3? I would probably have to play 1 and 2 on the PC as not out for PlayStation.

Crysis and Far Cry I haven't played any of them, better to just get the latest? I heard Crysis 3 is rubbish though so Crysis 2 and Far Cry 3?

Elder Scrolls, I was just going to get Elder Scrolls Online as I don't fancy playing all the old ones as it could take a while. Thoughts?

Finally I know these don't follow on in story but Final Fantasy I have played 7, 8, 9 and X. Was thinking of grabbing X-2 and then just the latest or are there others worth picking up?

Thanks guys :)

It's pretty hard to tell you which games to play as it always comes down to personal preference. I recommend not playing ESO - instead you could buy Skyrim (great game). GTA 5 another great game. I have Far Cry 3 and I really enjoyed it.

If you are looking for games that have a great story i would recommend,

Heavy Rain
Beyond Two Souls
Last of Us

Dead Space 1 2 3

As for God of War i loved it, story was awesome, gameplay was fun and the puzzles always had me thinking

My flat mate who is a game guru has told me Half Life and Half Life 2 have the best story and character plays ever (never played any half life as it dosn't appeal to me)

I'm going to noob myself past judgement

If you're after games with story then you should take a look at Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.

Why not ESO?

Thank you for the suggestions but I have played most of them, I was hoping to play through those I suggested for example does the story in God of War follow on or should I just get God of War 3. Which ones are worth picking up of those in my post.

Yes the story line follows on, I would recommend playing all 3.

Maybe FF12. It seems to be polarising; people either love it or hate it. I love it :)

Please, do yourself a favour and don't get X Rebirth.

I have played all the X series over the years, and pre-ordered X Rebirth.

When I think about X Rebirth I have to go sit in the corner and cry for a while. It is really bad. Fundamentally broken at the game design level.

+1 for Farcry 3 and Skyrim

Also consider Walking Dead, Papers Please, Tropico 4...

While I agree that these have very strong stories, the gameplay may not be to everyones liking. At times, it can feel like you're simply jumping between cutscene to QTE to cutscene to QTE...

Out of the list that the OP mentioned, I can definitely recommend Farcry 3. I found that a great game to play, especially if you like a bit of creativity in the way you can approach each situation, and like having an open world to roam around in. I also didn't mind Crysis 3. As with Farcry, you had scope for creativity with your enemy encounters.

I also second the recommendation for The Last of Us. It completely nails the gameplay vs storytelling balance, IMHO. Ditto the Uncharted series (with Uncharted 2 being my pick there).

I'm not one to play FPS games
but I totally agree with everyone saying to play Far Cry 3. A lot of great moments and just well thought out gameplay elements implemented.

Some of the best story based  games i have played are from Telltale Games. Start with Sam and Max then move on to The Walking Dead and then try The wolf among us. They are really good .
