A friend of mine is moving flat in Wellington and looking for the best ISP for gaming. At the moment he has the worse connection out of our crew and regularly drops out so he's highly motivated to get something that doesn't suck.

UFB isn't available where his new flat is so he's looking at either Snap VDSL (with Fritzbox 7490) or Vodafone Cable.

I left Wellington a while back so I'm not really sure who to recommend. In Wellington I was on Telstra Cable/ Paradise at the time it was the best connection eva - which I'm guessing has morphed into Vodafone. However my experience of Vodafone DSL speed/ reliability/ customer service a few years back was appalling.

My experiences with Snap connectivity/ speed/ reliability/ support as both a residential and business customer in the South Island has been excellent, but I'm not sure how that translates across the Strait.

What do Wellington gamers recommend?

If he can get UFB & cable VF will only offer Cable so I'd go with Snap.

If he can't get UFB but can get Cable. Go with VF Cable.
If he can Get VDSL but not UFB or Cable, Go with Bigpipe

Thank you. I got it wrong in my original post - UFB isn't available at his new flat.

Apparently VDSL line noise is 9 (1-10, 10 = bad), so Vodafone Cable is sounding like the best option.

Hopefully Vodafone customer service has improved since I used them.

I was with Vodafone cable, and it was pretty good other than strange routing and mixed customer service. Snap is faster, has better routing, and the few times I've had to call customer service they were pretty good.

I'm with Snap as well and they are pretty good. No issues with gaming. However I'm based in Auckland.
