Great news.  I guess we can shelve that 'custom routing' project for WoW now then  :P

I am guessing that there will still be a lot of players with characters on US realms, especially if they are in one of the Uber guilds like CTR.

Yea, i'll most likely be sticking with my US realm, but I still have alts on Oceanic, so customer routing for any ISP to US WoW servers would be a selling point.

I'll be sticking with my US realm because my guild is there - the blue post specifically says that mythic raids won't work across realms :(

So looks like the wow servers will be hosted in the Equinix DC (like D3 and Hearthstone), so tracert 103.4.115.248 (current AU D3 and Hearthstone ip address) to get an idea.

Most ISP's peering to APE (Auckland Peering Exchange) will go: APE > Vocus > Equinix

Spark will of course go via Global Gateway, presume Bigpipe will be the same.

Here's what it looks like on my work fibre connection with Voyager

Tracing route to 103.4.115.248 over a maximum of 30 hops

I am getting about 38ms on Slingshot UFB and 42ms on Vodafone cable (glad I play on the UFB). Both have a lot more steps than you do :(

Is this WoW only, or all Blizzard games?

remember ragnor is testing from auckland.. account for that in your latency and it doesnt sound too far off equal.

Diablo 3 and Hearthstone already use Australian servers when all the players involved are AU/NZ, if you get matched with a US player the game is hosted on US servers though I think.

No word yet on whether they will add AU servers for Starcraft II.

Yeah, I double checked the route on Slingshot and came to the same conclusion :)

Good to know :) Yeah I was mainly thinking of Starcraft 2 and the shambles at launch when I asked.

So the servers are live (about 4 hours earlier than expected) and I am indeed getting a ping of about 36-37ms.

The game feels WAY more responsive. The change is actually quite amazing. I hope the rest of you enjoy it as much as I am :)
