I want to play it, but requirements are out of my grasp, even with my new PC.

I'm hoping the final release requirements will be doable for my budget box as I really enjoyed Frontier and have been hanging out for a good replacement for years.

Looking at getting 980 card to replace the HD5450.

Should improve graphics performance I think. 😋

I'm playing beta 3 on an i5 2500 AND a Radeon 5770HD, an almost 6 year old card! Plays ok at 1080p.

Looking forward to seeing how it fleshes out as unfortunately for me it is a bit bland at the moment and I just don't get on with the atmospheric flight controls in space :-(

Well my Premium Backer Box arrived last week, DVD, Book, Shirt and Label Pin.

It's a pitty there is no demo, I would like to play a demo to see if I like it before buying it.

You know you can toggle the flight assist? So you can use atmospheric flight for getting about and when you feel the need (combat etc) you can toggle to proper space flight.

The premium set looks sweet. I was a backer myself but just the level that got me the game and all addons.
I haven't put many hours in myself but I find it very reminiscent of the original.
I even enjoy the whole docking/launching procedure and have had some frantic moments trying to land before my cracked canopy finished me off.

Bit disappointed they took the offline mode away, although I know why they did it.

I will be playing intermittently when work and family allows but online playing is a turn off for me as I get tired of being slaughtered by those who can spend hours on them (kids, the under employed etc)

I think there is a mode where you can turn off, real people which will reduce this.

Yes, you can play single player mode and I've played exclusively on this. I mean I still fly the same ship I started with, I just know I'd get shot down every trip I make.
In single player mode you still connect to the galaxy servers and I presume it remains a living galaxy with changes influenced by other players, except you never see any of them in your travels.
Mind you I have enough problems with the NPCs interdicting me at the moment.
Once I have some skills I might go multi, but I'll be sure to be in some remote part of the galaxy before that happens.

Been playing this game for a week now, its fun in its own special way. I can see how its not to the liking of others and I can see why people have sunk 100s of hours into it,

It's Elite. The fun is in losing yourself :)

I recommend using Voice Attack if you have a good headset mic. There are some magnificent voice packs out there.
