Hi,

Sorry if this isn't in the right place but I'm not sure where else it would fit. Someone on my son's remotely hosted Minecraft server (with McPro Hosting) is threatening to DDOS us if we don't give them full admin access to the server. I'm not sure if they mean DDOS the hosting people, or our internet connection. I guess they can get our IP easily enough. They're saying that we will have no internet when they are done with us. Are they just making hollow threats, or is it possible for them to actually do it? And if they can, what can we do about it? I'm keen to ban them, but want to know how serious the threat is first.

What do you mean "keen to ban them", host a whitelist only site and instant ban for any threat like that.

Normally we instantly ban for things like griefing and bad language but I'm concerned if we ban them it will antagonise and they will carry out their threat. As soon as I can confirm they are not capable of it, they're out of there permanently. We haven't whitelisted at the moment because my son is keen to attract new players. Unfortunately that means we get our fair share of idiots.

They probably mean DDOS the hosting system, alert the host support team and they'll at least be aware of the (probably common) threat.
99% of the time, these things are hollow threats meant to scare you into giving up access.

Why they want your MC server, who knows, when you can start your own easily anyway...........

They will most likely be meaning DDOSing the server / Hosting connection not your personal internet connection.

Just ban them,  Easiest way to get rid of them from the server.

I'm not sure how Whitelisting works on Minecraft but if it's IP based it's probably too much mucking around than it's worth unless you have a static IP

Thanks so much for the replies. I was hoping that's the case. I'll let McPro Hosting know, just to be on the safe side.
