My boy is itching to get a games console while here in the U.S. (ps4/xboxone/Wii-U).
After browsing titles it looks like the Xbox One is region locked.
I also see references to NTSC.

How about the PS4/Wii-U ?

Any other things to watch out for?

Fallback is a Nintendo 3DS-XL .. I would prefer that option

Both the Wii U and 3DS are region locked so you wont be able to play games purchased from NZ on them if you by a US console (But you can still buy games digitally through the eshop which is still cheaper than NZ prices). The PS4 and Sony systems are not region locked. I don't think the Xbox One is region locked either, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

you also need to check the power requirements of them, are they 100-240v or only 110-120v and will require a transformer to work here?

Both Xbox One and Playstation 4 games are region free. Only the Blu-Ray movies are region locked. Xbox One PSU from US is 110V so you will need to buy a step down transformer. PS4 PSU supports 110~240V. Overall better to buy console in NZ. Local Warranty etc

Dont get an aftermarket power supply for the console from asia to make it work here, A friend has been thru 3 of the cheap xbox 360 power supplys before learning his lesson about cheap power supplies.

Microsoft will sell you one here if you ask them. They seem interchangable with the US ones.
