For PC use/gaming
I currently have a wired (logitech B530?) headset which has worked great for over 5 years, now I have a standing desk my cats think the dangling cord next to me is some kind of new toy and I randomly get the headset yanked off. I was already considering a move to a wireless headset and this has just confirmed to me that it would be a good investment.
I was all set to get a pair of Logitech G930 (using logitech k800 wireless KB and G502 wired mouse and never had a problem with logitec so far) but Ive found endless reports of them having wireless conflict issues resulting in frequent disconnects. There are enough of these reports to make me reconsider.
What wireless headset are you currently using or would recommend.
I would rather not take out a bank loan just to fund this so price cant be super crazy high.
The cats are ninja-stealth-bitches and no attempt to keep them out of the room works.
I am not a crazy audiophile and am content with 'good sound' not crazy high end.

yeah stay away from the G930, I loved it at first, but have way to many disconnects.

The Sony Pulse headsets parallel imported by Mighty Ape are by a wide margin the best value for money you'll find. They'll work on anything with a USB port and\or a 3.5mm jack (and a something to power the USB transmitter). I can use mine in every device I own except the Xbox 360.

I can recommend that you stay away from bluetooth options. I thought I was doing the right thing getting an expensive (for me) bluetooth set - it will work with all the PCs and my phone without any dongles! Hooray! But there are enough disconnects and stutters that it rapidly gets annoying. Especially when watching movies and you miss some key plot exposition because the bluetooth decides at that moment to crap out so you have to rewind. I've got back to a wired option (with a 5m extension cable when in the living room).

I'll be interested in what others recommend. I've been thinking about a Logitech set just because of the unifying receiver thing but hadn't heard about the possible disconnect issues.

I've been using the PlayStation Gold headset for about 6 weeks now, $150, happy with them. (PriceSpy, Amazon)

Snug fit, sound is good, built-in mic is great, works fine with Windows; just plug in the USB dongle thing it comes with, drivers install automatically, then select the device in your Playback and Recording devices. Charges via included USB cable, I charge it once a day.

For me, range is limited to the room I'm in, my insulated walls tend to break up the connection if I try to walk across the house too far. But yeah, not fussing around with cords and cables while I'm wearing them, it's nice.

Edit: the USB dongle is Wi-fi I believe, not Bluetooth. Zero disconnects when I'm using it at my computer! And even if I'm walking out of range then return to range, it's a smooth transition, reliable as.

Check out the Logitech H800s, they support both bluetooth or a USB dongle, and I have had zero issues with dropouts etc. I replaced my G930s with them and they've been fantastic. They're not too pricey, either, around the $120 mark. They are not a fully enclosed ear style like the G930s, though, they are more open (which I find more comfortable anyway, personally). And like all Logitech's (and most other good manufacturers) products now, they charge via USB, and can be used while charging.

This seems like a very relevant thread to ask on. I want a wireless headset as well, but I can't find a single one that has the feature I want.

I currently use a wired older logitech headset all day for VOIP etc. Lots of conference calls. LOTS of need to be on and off mute ALL THE TIME. My current headset has a mute button on the right ear which is great - easy to find and press...

But the killer feature is that the microphone has a red LED on it that is lit when on mute, and it's visible in my periphery all the time. This is absolutely fantastic and I need this.

But I can't find a wireless headset with this feature. They all seem to signal mute by going "Bloopdy Bloop" in my ear for mute and "Bloppedy Bleep" for coming off mute, or something similar. This is rubbish and it's not possible to tell without going on and off mute what your mute status is.

So - does anyone know of a wireless headset with a visible mute indicator?

The G930 has a visible mute indicator - but as alluded to earlier in the thread, it is very prone to interference in the 2.4GHz range, which can lead to dropouts etc - but in an environment where they work, they are fantastic. The G35 is the wired version, which is also fantastic and reliable, and also has a LED indicator, but obviously loses the wireless 'freedom'.

Chuckle... Thanks for that. I should probably mention I would prefer a smaller headset and not something that looks like I should be in Top Gun.

Something the size of the Logitech H600 would be ideal...

Love my G930, havn't had any problems with disconects and thats in a pretty noisey 2.4g enviroment. Has good range and really good sound.

Unfortunately, the H600 and H800 only have audible mute indicators :/ That's the only thing I miss having moved from the G930 to them.

The Sony Pulse are similar with the added bonus of the having a 3.5mm jack on the USB dongle (which is WiFi) allowing it to transmit audio from any source. The "pulse" feature is an actual physical pulse to enhance the bass. Frankly it's weird and disturbing.

Yep know what you mean. I think it's because the ear pieces are very shaped for the pulse function, and you need to make sure the headset is actually aligned properly on your head. Much more so than any other headset.

well I kinda went full circle in my headset browsing and got the Logitech G930.
After the online reviews had convinced me that wifi dropouts would be a huge issue on the G930 I started looking at other options and somehow ended up looking back at better wired options for comfort. It was very easy to fall down the audiophile rabbit hole of which headset/phones are better but I came awfully close to getting the HyperX Cloud II, after many reviews of the Cloud I said that they were great sound and probably the best comfort. The ability to remove the mic and then use them via 3.5 plug on other setups/devices seemed like such a nice idea. This review also convinced me of the quality.

though I couldn't find a good NZ stockist for the II, so I went to try on the I in a store and I have to agree they were very comfortable.

But then I thought back to the whole reason, this wasn't for music and stuff, it was for PC gaming and to prevent my cats from playing with a hanging cable now that I stand around my nice new sit/stand desk.
I go on teamspeak from time to time so asked my friends what they were using as they always seemed clear when talking, turns out that 2 of them had the G930 and had no issue with them. I thought that maybe down the line it could be an issue but if they are on sale for $150 and last me a couple of years I would be happy with that. I also realised I had a similar issue with reviews of my other devices and they have all turned out to be great...so I was looking at my desk which has on it, K800, G502, C270, Z313, F310. All Logitech and all working great so it cant be that too much of a risk. Then I thought, 'WTF is up with logitech picking random-ass numbers for things?'....anyhoo....I bought the G930 and they (so far) are great. Setup was nice, they are comfortable even on my abnormally large (but empty) head, and I am happy with them.
As for performance, I can get them working in all rooms next to this one without issue, in game the 7.1 sounds awesome and makes a real difference for directional pick up and clarity of footsteps etc...but that is what they are for.....listening to music and TV they are about average, I would probably not recommend them for that over a good set of headphones.

Now one day, in the distance future, like the G502, I will get round to figuring out what to do with all the config buttons.
