Greetings,

Does anybody have any recommendations for an external HDD for the Xbox One?

Looking to invest in an external HDD (WD 4TB MyBook seems to be the preferred at the moment) and wondering if anyone has any experiences with external HDD's they'd care to share.

Having recently purchased an Xbox One and installed the Halo: Mastercheif Collection, plus a few other games and apps from the marketplace, I find my Xbox One's internal storage is quickly filling up.

Thanks

Thanks laughing

Had seen that article before posting my question. The comment "Then again, Seagate drives really do have a higher failure rate than other brands." steered me in the WD HDD direction (of which I already have two smaller USB 2.0 ones).

i have a Seagate 1TB goflex 2.5" USB3 portable drive which has been pretty reliable.  I think their 2.5" (laptop) drives are more reliable than the 35" ones, they are more likely designed to be moved around rather than fixed

3.5" or 2.3"?  (or both?)

I went with a 3.5" external drive, and based my decision around speed not reliability.  I figured that it'll be storing games that can be re-installed/downloaded so while reliability is nice, it's not as critical as in some scenarios, and lower load time is good.

Im thinking of getting one of those multi drive USB3 raid boxes if they will work on the xbox. Is it ok with large drives tho?

Apparently the max size per drive is 16TB, but I can only find 'gaming media' sources for that, not MS documentation.

Ok thats a relief then. Was worried it might be like my mentally deficient TV and freak out at anything over 4TB. At least it formats the drives itself so no worrrying about GPT or the old partition table selection.

Went to grab a WD My Book 4TB USB 3 Desktop Hard Drive (WDBFJK0040HBK-AESN) from Noel Lemmings last night for $

215.20, but they were all out and not getting any more in.

Noticed a Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive (STBV4000100) for sale online at Dick Smiths last night for $205.45, so have purchased one of them (purely because of price) and now waiting for it to arrive.

There is a new version of the Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive (STEB4000100), which is probably why the STBV4000100 was so cheap.

Not expecting any issues and if there are, I can always return it and wont lose anything that can be re-installed/downloaded again.
