Just got the recent Warehouse flyer, and in it, it has Xbxo360 Arcade bundle for $449.95, and is exclusive to Warehouse (as it seems)... I like the price and since it has HDMI (though cable not included and just the composite cable included with 256MB memory card and wireless controller). Ain't bad for a cheap entertainment with potential to add accessories to beef it up to the same grade as XBox360 Elite etc.

I might try and get this, but I got a question...

The Xbox360 core/arcade has white optical drive tray, where premium and elite are silver. Can this be changed? I know it's only cosmetic stuff, but I don't wanna to be appeared "cheap" when later I added all the cool stuff to make it into Premium grade (when I can afford the accessories bit by bit).

Or are all Xbox360 now with silver optical drive tray?

As the Arcade console is a core console with bundled accessories, the CD tray has a white front, that can't be changed AFAIK.

I bought a core console earlier this year when it was bundled with 4 games and a memory unit for only $50 extra and personally think it looks better than the console with the silver tray - I know that my console isn't the 'cheap' option as I have the 120GB HDD instead of the 20GB HDD that comes with the Premium system and the VGA cable, both of which are optional accessories for the Premium system, too. (It pays to get the larger HDD no matter which Xbox you actually choose, they fill up fast and the larger HDD will come in handy when movie rentals arrive on Xbox Live in December..)

Hey munchkin, have you had any bad experience with your Xbox360 core? overheating issues etc? How do you keep your system cool and ventilated? I read from most places that the power brick is best elevated from the carpet and keeping it well ventilated, how did you do with yours?

Cheers.

Have you got a link to backup that claim that movie rentals are comming? afaik that isnt true, europe is supposedly getting the video marketplace but there has been absolutley no mention of oceania. Ive had an elite for about a month, havnt had any problems with it, if you keep it all in a well ventilated entertainment unit you would be fine, the newer consoles have had changes made to address some of the problems

I have had my 360 for over a year now, and its holding up well, only problems is that it sometimes freezes and needs resetting and sometimes the disktray gets stuck, but no red rings for me!

As you might be able to see, the power brick is directly behind my MCE PC and associated clutter (it's directly under the power cord for the computer) I don't have any special ventilation (or much free space, actually) around the machine and I haven't had a problem at all.

No link, only what I've seen and been told from my Microsoft rep. - he hasn't let me down yet.

On the games blace select your gamertag, press A, scroll down to 'Auto Sign-In' and select 'Disabled' for Windows Live Messenger.

Cool... Thank munchkin, my set up for Xbox360 may not be as cluttered as yours, so may able to get by with little or not problem then *touch wood*

Sounds like Arcade bundle may get my dollars.

p/s: Do you know whether the bundled arcade compilation games are available as separate title or it is offered to Arcade bundle only? It gets pricey if getting just arcade bundle then 120GB hdd and additional wireless controller + VGA-cable + HDMI....

My setup is a little cluttered, I have a computer, an TV, a TCL STB, the 360, a sub-woofer, an amplifier and another CD player plugged in down there!

Yes you can download the included games separately but at around $8 a pop.

Check out Ascent for the 120GB HDD, it's $207 at the moment, cheaper than anywhere else I've found. As for the HDMI and VGA cables, you only need one :)

I know HDMI/VGA one or the other. But having both means I can play on LCD monitor if the TV is occupied, or vice-versa. As for games, I know you can get them through XLBA but isn't it "drm" to the system console serial and Xbox Live ID? I mean, having them in a DVD (bundled) means we don't have to spend more money to get those games, whole idea of Arcade...

Hmm must give this more though...

Ah, hadn't thought of that. The arcade games are DRM'ed if you download them, however, you can take the HDD and use it on another console as long as you're signed in to XBL. You can use the DVD included with the Arcade console on any console and it will work fine.

I would get the drive from ascent.. You can buy xbox live arcade unplugged vol 1 off trademe pretty cheaply, it comes with the following games on dvd:

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
Wik: Fable of Souls
Bejeweled 2
Outpost Kaloki X Outpost Kaloki X
Hardwood Backgammon
Texas Hold 'Em

I realise its not the same list of games that the arcade bundle comes with but I hear there is a volume 2 of this around the corner.

Id say trademe will be your friend for vga and hdmi cables, they are a hell of a lot cheaper than you will find in stores..
