In case you are soon looking for an xbox one, there should be some more deals soon, given a new one is on its way.

1TB standard version, ( meaning the 500GB gets a price cut) with a built in 3.5 mm jack, in the controller, like the ps4 has, so no need to buy the separate chat adapter.

More details here:

http://news.xbox.com/2015/06/xbox-one-1tb-console-price-reduction

Available for pre order MS Store at least for now.

I know $649, why would you, however, im sure JB's or the Warehouse will do more specials on them soon.

does it still use AAA batteries? because replacing batteries ( instead of plugging in the controller to charge) is still relatively inconvenient

Still uses batteries, and or the recharge kit. Which if you buy decent versions of either, don't have to be changed that often, i get at least 10 hours from mine.

If you use the 3.5 jack on the controller only, the controls are on console for it, although they have yet to show it.

Also the controller will do wireless firmware updates, and the have adjusted the bumpers, no specifics on "adjusted".

I want the new controller with wifi adaptor for Windows.  Hopefully it will also work with 8.1 instead of waiting for 10.

I remember reading somewhere the wireless xbox one controller would only work with windows 10.  Which is sort of bad, but hopefully shouldnt be too much of a problem.  Im sure someone will get it to work under linux as well.

I find the opposite to be true.  With a rechargeable battery I have one plugged in and charging, and one in the controller.   It lasts forever, but I don't need to play with a cable shoved in the front of my controller if my battery dies.  I just swap the charged battery for the dead one and go, it takes about 15 secs to go from zero charge to full charge.

I've also found the AA option really quite good as a backup when I forgot to charge my spare.  I'd rather do that than have cables running to the controller while playing.

Warning: reality may differ from above post

I have multiple controllers for that reason. The xbox play and charge pack is lightyears ahead of sticking in a pair of nimh AA's for run time IME. Its a little lithium pouch cell inside it and some circuitry. One controller on charge in a dock from the warehouse for $5 and use the other one. When its low, swap them over in a break in the game.

NiMH in the controller seemed to start to drop out really quickly after it said it was low.
