stevenz: It'll cost ya, but better off seeing if you can get the proper Sony outfit to do it. I'm not sure there are any _reputable_ 3rd party repair outfits. Avoid the Xmodz\kiwimodz guy if he's still in business.
It may be more practical to just buy a "preowned" unit from EB ($220-ish). Unfortunately that means losing your saves, but at least you get a warranty.
joker97: does ps4 play ps3 games? if it does maybe that's the way to go

Was that the fella based in Wainuiomata, Wellington? I had dealings with them over a 360 rrod error. Took a while.

No it doesn't. Unless you count the PS Now service, which I don't believe is available here yet anyway.

Yikes not backward compatible!

I have the preview dash on the x1, so already have the backwards compatibility. You can't just shove a disc in and run from that. What happens is that it downloads a copy of the from the MS servers with a custom (for the game) xb360 emulator wrapped around it. Then runs it from the X1 HDD.
So they do need to do a bit of work per game to make them go. But it's nothing to do with the game itself, just build the custom emulator, and make sure the licensing is in place. The games I've test have worked at least as well as they did on the 360, if not better.
dclegg:
Does that mean you can't simply use your existing 360 collection, and have to re-purchase emulated copies? Or does it detect the 360 media and then fetch the emulated version?

Who needs backwards compatibility when you can pony up another $100 for current gen ports of previous gen games? ;-)

What if you got brought games on the ps3 that aren't out on the ps4 yet? and want to play them on your ps4
