Hi

I took the plunge and got an Xbox One with Kinect. My kids need soemthing to do duing the long winter and I wanted a bluray player etc. At the time, this seemed the toy to get. Boy, am I sweating now....

I created a MS account for me and one for each of my twins. This seemed the way to do it, but now, if Kinect is having a bad day (and it seems to have a few, lately) then users are required or constantly prompted to sign in.

Problem 1: Since there is no password remembering allowed, the kids have to know their compulsory high difficulty password. They are 5. This means, I cannot leave the room when they play, because if they change games (and all the games are kid friendly) then sure enough, the Xbox will stop all play, declare it can't ID somebody in the room and demand a manual sign in - we don't have a keyboard, so this is a lengthy process that only I can manage.

Problem 2: if the first person to the Xbox is twin1 and the game is saved, then the next day twin2 is first in the room, the saved games cannot be loaded, as it's a different profile. This seems to be inconsistent between titles.

What happens when friends come over for a visit, how do they play?

How do Xbox One users get around this high security requirement?

Any hints or tips or suggestions to allow me some peace while the kids play, would be greatly appreciated. This is my first console ever, so feel free to expand.

Thanks

Gund

you can turn the password requirement off I believe.  The options IIRC are
- off
- on
- prompt when buying (this is kinda hidden, well not as straight forward as it should be).

You should be able to 'Add to Family' for all your child accounts, then set the necessary restrictions for each of the categories.
I've done this and all my kids can sign in without password prompts and anything they try to do above their age restriction requires me to provide permission.

This might help, although it is for the old dash layout it should still give you an understanding on where to go and what to do.

all my accounts remember their passwords... not sure if I did anything specific to make that work.  both kids were added as family members and it auto logs them in and auto blocks content that's too old for them (amazon prime video is great example of this working seamlessly)

Does an 'I was not recognised' option appear below the profile picture? This is what I use, but my account doesn't prompt for passwords if recognized by kinect.

I'm still unable to solve this.

I've gone as far as changing my kids to adults and okay them for adult content, but still, they occaisionally get prompted for passwords and becasue there is no way to change password complexity, it means I am now at that point where I cannot leave the kids alone with the XBox without being called to input a password. not to mention, any games saved, have to be opened under my username for them to continue, it's the worst possible scenario for a childrens toy - constant helicopter parenting required.

Surely there is a way to buy a product for ones children and expect them to be able to play with it, unattended?

Do these people who develop these products have children or do they just not test anything at all?

In other news, massive XBox bundle willing to swap for PS4. I have several games, piles of accessories and add-ons...

Could you reach out to Xbox Support and ask them to help?

There is an option to use a PIN number instead somewhere (I set it up ages ago) which might help instead of remembering passwords.

I gave up setting up accounts for the kids - Kinect just isn't sensitive enough to tell the difference between everyone in our household. Wife can sign in, then leave and one of the kids walks in and it signs in as my wife. Could try giving the dog an account and see if it notices then.... :)

Not ideal but I have one account setup on the Xbox with auto login, the kids don't get asked for passwords anymore.

I took off all password requirements, it means the 6 year old could buy anything if he figured it out.

I need to look up the 'prompt on buying'
