I bought a PS4 in the sales, great machine, and signed up for the trial of Playstation Now that allows streaming of PS3 games, however it warns me of a poor connection, and won't let me play any games.

Anyone tried this and managed to get it working?

I am on Fibre 200/200 and the PS4 is hardwired to a managed Gigabit Ethernet switch, so it's not a local network issue.

Yeah I don't get enough bars on their speed test either. I'm on VDSL 60/10.

Too much latency I expect.

The games will be hosted in America, so latency will screw it up. It won't be playable.

(This is different from streaming Netflix from the USA because latency is largely irrelevant when you can buffer video, which you can't do with live gaming because of the interactive nature of the media)

But isn't this service also marketed and sold in NZ? Or is it just USA only (I only have a USA PSN account so cannot tell)

Only in the US at the moment, maybe the UK too.

It's the latency. Sony won't let you play with latency over a certain value because otherwise the experience would be absolutely terrible. It's hardly 'being extra tough'. They just don't want people on forums moaning about rubbish experience simply because they live too far from the servers.

The maximum latency they would accept is lower than we get in NZwhen connecting to the Sony play servers in the USA.

Bare minimum for a somewhat playable experience would be a consistent 150ms (including hardware latency), so I would imagine they would set the bar a bit higher (or rather, lower) than that.

So to close this out I cancelled my PS Now subscription yesterday. Geez Sony don't make these things easy! It took about 15 minutes of working through their website only to find out you have to cancel it on the PS4!

I hate to break it to you, but this would make the cable snap, causing it to become non functional.

I think what you mean to say is shorten the length between the starting and finishing points, which could only be accomplished by terraforming. (or Maui)

A much more sensible solution would be to install servers for the content you want, at a closer location.
