Just seeing what games are popular here with NZ servers, i'd like to be able to play something with a good ping.

Team Fortress 2 is an old game, but there are a few NZ servers (orcon, getsome.co.nz and a few more) so you can have a good ping.
Playing sydney servers is alright as well. The game is free, but can be quite fun.

Currently the things getting regularly played on the GS servers are:
Ark
Minecraft
CS
GMOD: TTT
TF2

cowface: I've been playing a ton of overwatch recently. My ping usually sits around 35ms.
That's not fantastic - sounds like the server is in Australia (sydney?). Probably plays alright. I'm keen to try overwatch one of these days.
Yeah I think the servers are in Australia but the pings perfect for me no complaints. Yeah its a great game, loving it :D.

Unless you are a pro-gamer, you won't be seeing any perceivable difference in experience between a ping of 35ms vs a ping of 1ms. (And even if you are a pro gamer the difference it miniscule)
The difference between 35ms and 1ms is night and day.
If you take two equivalently skilled gamers, both with highend gaming rigs, and put them in an FPS like BF4, one with 35ms latency and the other with 1ms latency, the results will not be even.
