Hey well i am looking to rent out a PS3 in the next day or two from the video shop to see wether it is for me or not.

However i am wondering if it would work on my tv?

It is a big chunky 'box' type TV. Sony 29".

it is very similar to this if not the same one... http://www.welectronics.com/sony-29j.jpg

IMPORTANT: I CURRENTLY HAVE A NINTENDO WII AND THE TV PLAYS THAT FINE NO PROBS - SO IF THE NINTENDO WII WORKS ON THE TV WOULD THE PS3 WORK ASWELL?

I also have this TV... [shorten url]

Would it work on that 1 if not the first one?

Thanks for all info guys and girls:)

Yep, it will work fine.  All TVs can play the latest consoles - but quality wise, the newer the better.

the only thing you won't be able to do is play your games in high definition because it looks like that tv doesn't have an HDMI connection. PS3 has 2 ways of connecting, via HDMI or RCA cables (which have been standard for PS1 and PS2). If you're actually thinking about buying a PS3 i would strongly suggest upgrading to a HDTV, especially because half the price you're paying for the PS3 is for High Def gaming and video. without HD i wouldn't say it's worth it.

If your in the market for a new HD TV..
Here is my advice..

Do your research...
Try and get reviews (NZorAuz) on the models you are looking at..
Take your time when buying.. dont rush into the first screen you see.

Ohh and remeber alot of sales people dont really know what they are talking about..

:)

Amooman's right. sales people don't know squat about what they're selling and usually never have any hands-on experience with what it is they're selling

when looking for a LCDTV you should be looking at it's resolution, response time and connections it offers. contrast ratio is usually a waste of time as there is no worldwide standard so manufacturers are free to create whatever contrast ratio they feel like. also you can tell how good the contrast will be by how dark the screen is when it's turned off. ones with bad contrast will appear a lighter shade of grey rather than a deep black.

take a DVD along with you to test out the screen, make sure the DVD has plenty of fast paced action and very dark scene setups so you can test the tv's performance.

never buy overseas as worldwide warranties offer little if any coverage, you'll have no CGA coverage and the risk of something going wrong for shipping in my opinion is too high. also the tv will be NTSC if its from the states not PAL (nz's frequency) and you'll also be charged by customs when it comes into the country. it will also likely not be tested or approved for the nz market which can never be a good thing.

Lenneth: I didn't realize that the ps3 could work on "normal" tvs as well.

There are at least 3 connection methods.

RCA 1 video component 576i low res for old TV's
Which can also be scart or S/video

Component RGB upto 1080p   i believe

HDMI upto 1080p

It's not worth getting a PS3 unless you've got some sort of HD TV around 720res with component/HDMI.  May as well stick with a PS2. or calculator...

that's rubbish. there are plenty of reasons to get a ps3. just because it won't look as nice on your older tv doesn't mean the games are less challenging or playable. feel free to stick to your calculator though...

I agree with snaff, you'd be doing the ps3 an injustice not using a HD panel.
You can tell when switching between the 2 formats that the games were designed
for large his res screens, alot of the writing in games is almost unreadable and
the quality of the picture gimped by not using HD.

Which i think is strange that they only ship with composite (red white and yellow plugs)

Congrats on winning a LCD though, where can i win one?
