With the recent "hype" around Pokemon Go, I had a thought the other day that I can't shake - purchase a Nintendo New 3DS and play some of the Pokemon games on it, as well as some of the older releases that are either available via the eStore or via cross compatibility with older systems.

At the moment I know that I want the "new" model, but not sure if I want to get the regular size or the XL version.
I considered the 2DS for a while, until I realized that it did not fold

Anyone own a 3DS and can give any comments or suggestions?
And then does anyone know of the best place to get - EB Games seems to have the XL for $279, though JB is offering a bundle with the XL and a Pokemon game that is tempting since I want one of those games anyway.

I got one. I use it purely for Pokemon purposes. I do like the new 3DS XL. Pretty decent battery and good screen size.

JB Hi Fi has a bundle - $358 for the new XL console, Pokemon Alpha OR Omega plus an Aminbo figure

Separate pricing is $280, $69 and $25 = $374, so a small saving

Have to wait till payday to know what I can afford this month, which of course will give me an opportunity to see if there are any better deals out there

if you just want a 3DS for pokemon - try to see if someone on trademe is selling one a little cheaper. I got mine second hand from someone that bought it to play pokemon and sold it after he was done with it.

Got a New 3DS XL as a Christmas gift last year from the SO. (I still find it hilarious that the actual console itself is named 'New 3DS').

Love it! Side-by-side, it definitely looks and feels better than her 3DS.

One of the first places I looked and .. not an option.
I only wanted a "New 3DS" and most people were only selling the older model.

I also have a thing against buying second hand consoles (and electronics in general).

I picked up the original 3DS on trademe for about $40, played some awesome games on it.  The New3DS has much better 3D, so would definitely recommend that.

Totally worth the buy.  If you like Zelda games, Link to the Past was AWESOME.

I have a regular 3DS XL (Not 'new'). I'd definitely got for the 3DS XL, the bigger screen makes a lot of difference. Also I haven't found any games I wanted that were only for 'new' I couldn't play and still think of the 3D mode as a gimmick.

I actually started with Pokemon X/Y and plan to get Alpha/Omega then Sun/Moon. All fun to play through. I also want to get some of the Zelda games and such like too.

Well I am now the owner of a New 3DS XL (in Black), Pokemon Omega Ruby, Animbo Charizard and a Power Pack

Shall test over the weekend and report back.

Anyone know any good places to get 3DS games from - local stores stock is limited, and NZ only prices seem rather expensive for games that are in some cases 2-3 years old

I find it is like a tablet. Seemed like a great idea. Sits unused because the ergonomics of using it are absolute shyte compared to other gaming options.

Well, I spent some of the weekend playing on the 3DS and am rather happy with the purchase

According to the in game timer, I have clocked up 9 hours on Pokemon Omega Ruby and have only done three gym badges .. so lots more time needed.

Locally only EB and JB sell any games though so I'll be looking at Trademe, Australia or UK based stores to get some new games when/if required

You might be interested in this. I went into EB games over the weekend and i found out that Nintendo has been running a special promo this year for Pokemon's 20th year anniversary. They were giving out Lv100 legendary pokemon that you can redeem in X, Y, Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby. I got a Lv100 Arecus (i probably butchered the spelling there). I got 2 cards because I have got X as well as Alpha Sapphire.

I am going back next month to get the next legendary.

Cash Converters? They used to sell lots of old console games.

Don't think we have Cash Converters in Dunedin anymore

I ended up purchasing a Arceus and Darkrai code from Trademe last night as local EB did not have any cards left.

Reading about the current EU promotions, where they mention a PAL console is required - has anyone imported one of those codes?
