Basically, I'm after a way to mindlessly waste about half an hour a day on a single player air or space combat sim.

Why? Because I've dug up my ancient Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and I'm looking for something to do with it.

I've got IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 on Steam but (believe it or not) I'm finding it a bit too hard for a mindless casual gaming session.

Any ideas anyone?

Warthunder might scratch the itch,

Edit, missed the solo play aspect

yeah, don't want to play multiplayer unless I intend to get good at it, otherwise it's not much fun. and I don't want to spend enough time on it to get any good. :)

HAWX! Now we're talking. And I just remembered Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. That should be fun too.

Awesome, thanks guys.

I've had some good fun with Freespace 2. Might be more in-depth than you're after, and the graphics are definitely basic. But good space combat sim.

Ha I just recently bought a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro myself, I thought it would be good to use with No Man's Sky. Silly me! Now I'm looking for something decent to use it with too.

As for space combat, I had good memories of this as a kid and still have the CD packed away somewhere, might dust it off one day:

For more modern space combat sims (though far from 'simple') there's Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen but the latter is far from worth your time just yet, maybe with the 3.0 alpha later this year. I haven't tried Elite myself yet.
