Currently the Evga GeForce GTX-1060 3GB SuperClocked card is only $210 on amazon US. Delivered to NZ for $320 total.

I'm wondering if it's possible it will incur any import tax?

And secondly if there are any other cards/deals that can beat it for this price?

Nah, you're below the tax threshold, so should be safe. With that said, local purchase isn't much more.

Personally when it comes to a graphics card I would get locally for warranty purposes.

Thanks for replies, I checked the duty but wondered if perhaps there were charges I might not know about.

Now I'm just wondering if prices in NZ might drop this low as well.

That GTX 1060 is good. Probably the best you will get. But you will be struggling to find one for $300. Most places are selling for $399 (playtech) or $379 http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=27615 .

You will pick up a GTX970 off trademe for $300 I rekon. Probably a GTX780 for a bit less. The GTX1060 will be better.

As for AMD, this is probably the go-er.

If your budget can stretch to an RX480 then do that but the GTX1060 6GB outshines an RX480 in nearly every way.

Amazon will often pre-collect it even when it is not due, and then take forever to give it back to you, but that is made clear during the checkout process.

Do you mean Amazon were collecting the NZ Customs charges...GST etc..?? and then refunding that??...I didnt think NZ Customs have any agreements with companies overseas to do collect GST etc on behalf on NZ Customs....Rgds....Laurie

Yes, if you check out with something that will be around $400ish then you will see them add it on to what you pay them. They then do all the clearing thru their freight guys and it just turns up.

Often still cheaper than local, and usually cheaper than using a reshipper where you have to pay the silly handling charges for your freight company.

edit:

Looks like this

You have to also consider the actual exchange rate you will get from your credit card company or Paypal, usually this is vastly different to what you think it will be.

I have a fairly old desktop ie. i3 sandy bridge / 4gb ram / gigabyte socket 1155 mb (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4089#ov)

Could I add in a GTX1050 and would it be worth it in terms of mid level gaming - 1080p @ decent fps?

TIA.

For anyone still looking, Newegg is running a cracker deal (not sure how long for).

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 06G-P4-6163-KR, 6GB GDDR5 for $370.46 NZD shipped.

A much better option than a 3GB card, if you can make the difference.

Thanks for sharing - I was about to buy a card from PB too.

Total cost came to $370.46 from NewEgg. If I was going to order the same card from PB I'd be looking at $469.00 (and they have no stock currently).
