I've bought my son a New 3DS XL for Christmas, and I know that he'll be hanging out to play with it straight away. Will it be ready to go straight out of the box, or should I get it out and perform some set-up before I wrap it? I've got the charger, some games, and a formatted SD card to expand the storage. Any other things I should be aware of? Thanks!

It has about 1/3 charge out of the box; be prepared to spend about an hour going through setup but then you should be all good to play.

Thanks - would my son need to be present for the setup? It would be nice if I could charge it and get it ready to go beforehand.

From my poor memory, it was connecting to WiFi, choosing a Nintendo ID, going to the store and linking ID to the store and probably showing you how to use the console.
So, probably not needed

Ah, okay, thanks. He already has an ID from his Wii U, so I think we'll be safe enough :)
