I've just started gaming a little and I downloaded battlefield hoping to get in a bit of shooting action but the ping is (I think) causing me to miss heaps of shots, are there any good fps games I can get for free that have local servers,
I'm on unlimited fiber in Whangarei, I would've thought it would be ok gaming on US servers

Lan, like a 1 meter cable to the router and then a 1 meter cable to the fibre box

You cant find any Battlefield servers in Aussie? Normally youll get 30-50 ping to there.
I havent played 2 in a while.....

Probably no good free ones that have a decent userbase. BF2 is 11 years old now and iirc was down to about 250 players at peak hours(worldwide).

That beign said you can buy a BF3 cdkey for under $8 or BF4 for under $12 which will have larger player numbers locally(nz/aus).

Better off with BF4 (second newest in the franchise), or Battlefield 1 (latest). You can purchase them on Origin (it's a client/program you have to download and install, a bit like Steam)

If you have fiber, just purchase one of them and install it via origin. It can be had for like $20

For starting out in fps games, honestly i would recommend Overwatch.

There is less skill based content in it and more just team play.

BF3/4 like good hardware though, so avoid unless you have a decent CPU/video card.

Overwatch is great fun, and theyve just marked it right down in price for the Xmas holidays. :) Friend had it running on a Core 2 Duo with 4850 video card, wasnt the prettiest but was playable (hes now upgraded thankfully). I get approx 60fps on my budget system.

Have a friend who still plays on an older system, averages 15~30 fps... Even spectating him, is SO painful i'm not even sure how he can actually play.....

Dont worry about the other editions unless youre one of those that must have the extra skins etc ;) Thing I like about OW is that its a level playing field every time, you rely on skill, not on the fact that you bought a bigger gun.

A level 1 player has a good as chance as a level 100.

I think I might but Battlefield 4 from origin as suggested, I've got an i7 with 16gb of ram and an RX480 so it should run it sweet, will I miss out on much if I only buy the $20 version?
