Hi there,

I have an original X-box that has not been modified. I have had this x box for quite sometime now and when I tried to turn the x box on I am getting a green flashing light followed by a red flashing light.  I do recall an error number but did not write this down but it had the word EEPROM in the message. The splash screen does not display when connected to a TV.

I went on the internet to find out what these lights meant and I came up with a 'Bad/Corrupted or empty EEPROM' diagnosis.

Does anyone know what I need to do to rectify this issue - I looked again on the internet and it lead me to believe that I need an EEPROM reader - but what else do I need to do - and if it worth the money trying to rectify this issue.

If you can help, that would be great.

Thanks

Jay

Given that the console is 8 - 16 years old you haven't had a terrible run : )

Not sure about that particular issue, but I've had success fixing RROD on an Xbox 360 (and I'm useless with this stuff), so I'm sure you'll be able to fix it somehow. Probably best to get the exact error code to help you with your googling.

Or you could sell it for parts, then upgrade to an Xbox 360. Many of your original Xbox games will be compatible with the Xbox 360. Or you could always upgrade to an Xbox One, but then you won't be able to play your Xbox Original games.

Cheers Sam,

A question though, how do I get the error message from the x-box as nothing comes up on the television, can I somehow get in the back of the x-box through my computer - connect from x box to PC.

Thanks for your reply.

PS.  How did you fix your x-box 360.

No idea, you might have more luck on the Xbox.com forum.

The RROD is a really common problem with 360s, so I just followed a Youtube tutorial. Just had to open it up, disassemble, remove the heatsink and reapply the heatsink. I'm sure there will be a tutorial out there for your problem, but it could be much more complicated.
