So, have bitten the bullet and acquired a PS4 from a fellow GZer.

V excited and looking forward to hooking it up to the Bravia!

I'm old enough to be easily thrashed by kids who grew up with this sort of thing, but fortunately have no kids to thrash me unless I play my nephew in the US on line (can you do that?) so mostly my incompetence and malcoordination will not be seen by anyone but the dogs..!

Nice! Get yourself a copy of the Nathan Drake Collection, and The Last of Us Remastered. Excellent story driven games, made by the masters of story driven games.

^Wise. Play all the Uncharted's. Last of Us for sure. Some of the other PS exclusives are quite interesting too.

I played Until Dawn a few months ago

It's like a cabin in the woods teen slasher movie but in game form, and a bit of a pick-a-path. You can survive the game with all characters or none, just depends on your decisions and reactions The graphics are superb and it's a cast of real actors you'll recognise.

Another great exclusive was The Order: 1886

Not a particularly challenging game, but it looks phenomenal and is 16x9 letter boxed to give it a cinematic feel. Cool steampunk Victorian London.

Most of these games are super cheap now too.

Cool. The PS4 is the Uncharted version in the grey colour, so it comes with the latest incarnation of the Nathan Drake game - and also Last of Us remastered as well!

I ordered a copy of Fallout 4 when I saw it on sale new for $38 - I've wanted to play that for ages.

I know that only the new PS4 Pro has 5Ghz wifi. From experience, our network (dual band) is WAY faster on 5Ghz than it is on 2.4 - WiFi Explorer reports throughput of 1200Mbps on 5Ghz compared to 217Mbps on 2.4.

At present I have a power line Linksys unit near the TV connected to the Sky box with an Ethernet cable.

What's the best way to hook the PS4 up? I have seen 5Ghz adapters you can connect to the PS with ethernet but not sure if you can get them in NZ? Or is 2.4 going to be good enough for whatever a PS4 does with wifi?

Slight hijack of the thread, but it may be of interest to the OP

Back in the day I gamed. Orchid Righteous 3D and Hercules 128 days. But no more, I went down the track of sims. Flight and Racing.

But I have a PS4, and bought a few "games" Fallout and a few others.But what I lack is interest. I want to try these out, but I want a goal, I dont want easy, I dont want hard, I don't want to have to RTFM. Actually that would be ok. Aslsuming I can read/learn and get into it, and have a goal. Not into shooting anything that moves, gathering fantasy articles. I guess what Im trying to say is that my mind struggles to get into it. Perhaps like some people think laterally, some don't. Me, It feels like I find it hard to justify wandering around doing stuff, I want a goal, and not a fantasy goal of trinkets and stuff. But I can see how some games can immerse a player, "into" the game. I was looking at a "1942" type game, where its not fantasy. But I need a goal. I see some games that my daughter tells me are open, where there is no end, I assume. Do whatever you want. Seems pointless to me.

I can see myself trying some of these games, Fallout, Crysis, etc, and being bored early, due to lack of knowledge and gamecraft. Or I might "click" and get immersed.

Thoughts?

Probably ethernet into the poerline adapter, but also see how 5GHz goes back to your router directly since powerline often has small outages as they re-adjust to the changing conditions which might be a problem. Ive only ever run games consoles wired except for the xbox360 I use for youtube on the junkroom tv.

It's interesting how everyone wants different things from their experience.

I see them as an alternative to reading a book or watching TV - something I may do if I have a spare hour or two rather than something I will obsess over and be playing at 3am. Well past that now..!

I also have an odd mind. I don't like games that exceed my skill level: getting to a point where some action or combination of actions is required that I just can't manage leads to frustration followed by boredom followed by moving on. (Likewise I like to know the plots of books, TV programs and so forth in advance, so that I can pay more attention to the details without needing to work out the main plot.)

The best gaming I recall is where someone has found the cheats and has God Mode or unlimited money/ammo etc. I don't mind some challenge but I don't want enough that it will prevent me from succeeding and cause me to find another game. I'd like them to build in ways to skip over bits like that. That way you do not need to borrow someone's teen to do it in 10 seconds as if it was as easy as turning on a tap...!

Years ago I was in a European racing league. EA F1 2002 if I recall. 500 players. You run hot laps. So I knew the plot so to speak, i.e. racing F1 cars, but I would spend hours and hours and hours testing setups. That was the detail, the enjoyment, the challenge, and the goal. The reward was almost always being inside the top 15 of 500, and often well inside it. I like the idea of a real world army type game, but not endless shooting. This winter I will force myself to lock away a few afternoons and give them a go.

LOL, but I don't want cheats! To me, that takes away the goal. I play Juice Jam at the moment, just as brain exercise. I earn free powers, but I never use them, for that reason. Although handy on a hard level that bores me! I'm at level 770, all hard, but thats the challenge. Brain, bit of luck, and strategy, I enjoy that a lot, and its just one of those candy crush type of games.

I'm enjoying Fallout 4. I'm playing it in Super Easy mode, so it is not too much of a die/respawn/die/respawn rinse and repeat...!

The artwork in the game is awesome and a lot of the ideas are quite fun too - not to mention the regular opportunities to shoot things...I read somewhere that it can be about 400 hours of game play to do all the quests and discover all the places and objects. I can believe it.

Im at 389 hours on fallout 4 on PC, still see areas on peoples youtubes that I have not seen. Do you have all the DLC for it too?

I have Far Harbour but have not got there yet.

The one where you can turn Codsworth into a Terminator sounds fun - although he doesn't do too badly with a circular saw and a flamer!

I just wish I could carry more and that you could have a central index for all your stashed stuff. Sometimes I want to use things or build with things that I know I had but which I stashed somewhere because Codsworth and I ran out of carrying capacity - and I can't recall where I stashed it! I lost my Power Armour plates for ages like that. Just had the frame!

I found the 2 carry perks to be a huge game changer. Being able to fast travel when overencumbered makes taking it all back to one place really easy.

The only way I can win most games are by using cheats - either unlimited weapons/money or invincibility or something.

Other wise I don't bother.

I can win "some" games though ... like Civilization Revolution ... [by saving at each step and restoring if the computer starts winning in deity mode lol - that's not cheating right?]

I play game in PS4 its very awesome. PS4 have awesome joystick, Graphic and Shape its very beautiful. I like PS4 more than Xbox one.
