Hi everyone,

Do any of you have a PSVR? Is the VR experience worth the money? Are you still enjoying it or is it just collecting dust now?

I am thinking of buying one tomorrow (they are on special on at the moment) as I have read a number of opinions on how great the experience of VR is (using PSVR) with some saying its the best gaming experience they have had since they started gaming.

But I do have concerns:

1) It's obviously a lot of money ($600)

2) I haven't ever tried VR - I have never seen anywhere demo them

3) There seem to be quite a lot of people on TM selling theres 2nd hand saying "the PSVR wasn't for them"

4) There is concern about Sony's on going commitment in terms of games. They have sold a million of them now, but the games on display at E3 seemed a bit weak, and it sounds like sales have slowed a lot in the last 3 months 80k vs 920k units in the first 5 or 6 months

I would really appreciate your thoughts and experiences in order to decide if the current experience is worth the price of admission, or whether it would likely be of short term interest.

I know there is Oculus and the Vive, but they are outside my price range and I already have a PS4 Pro.

I would say that unless you have money to burn, you should definitely try before you buy - especially if you have never tried the current generation of VR.

Some folk still suffer from persistent motion sickness whatever system they use and for many more the technology is s fun novelty for a while, but quickly ends up gathering dust on a shelf.

IMHO there has yet to be a true "killer" game where VR is fundamental to the experience, though there are plenty of fun time-wasters.

All that said, I haven't personally tried the Sony solution, so my opinion may not carry too much weight!

Hopefully it's ok to post this here since it's very much on topic.

I actually rent out virtual reality headsets, and ship all around NZ. This includes the PS VR, Rift and Vive. Even PS4 Pro and Gaming PCs if people need them (I see you already have a PS4 Pro). I've had PSVR since launch. It's an amazing experience being in VR but it can make some people dizzy from motion sickness.

I don't use the PSVR as much as I'd like but that's because I have busy work and family life but I'm thoroughly glad i invested. Everytime I do use it I smile at how awesome it is.

My advice is if you're not a VR enthusiast then wait for iteration 2. I think wireless with improved resolution and improved controllers will make it that much better. If you've never tried VR then be prepared to have your mind blown, it's awesome!

Thanks for the opinions. I'm a fairly serious gamer (when I can find the time with work and family!) and l do like technology (I'm a software developer), but I guess I won't know if I am a VR enthusiast until I try it out.

From what I have read Iteration 2 probably won't be a round for a couple of years, assuming in the mean time it doesn't die out in the main stream market from a lack of install base - there are a lot of doom and gloom articles and opinions around, but hopefully they are all wrong.

I guess I could always buy it, and if I don't like it sell it on TM and take a hit of $150 or so which would be the cost of some fun for a few months

Did you end up buying one? - I got one just after you put up the post with a PS4 pro. I think it is seriously cool and the potential is huge.

Most enjoyable stuff has been the demo games of CoD-Jackal Assault and X-Wing battlefront.

Enjoy scaring the crap out of visitors with the shark experience and rush of blood ghost train.

Its a bit too immersive especially with headphones on - insanely anti-social

It will be interesting to see how the upcoming games go with VR, seems to be more of a download add on to a full game in most cases.

Its been 4 weeks and still enjoying it, esp now that I have sorted sufficient cable routing around myself and chair

How you getting on with your psvr now Yogi?

I meant to reply, but forgot, and came across the old email today.

I did buy one, and when I get a chance to play it I do find it pretty awesome. Just played London Heist the other day and found that a heap of fun.

I have Rush of Blood and find that very freaky to play, certainly far far far more scary playing in VR.

I haven't had many tracking issues, etc, although I recalibrate it every time I play. There also seems to be a fair amount of games still coming out, albeit smaller games.

My problem with the psvr is finding the time to play it. I have young kids (including a toddler) and so there is no way I can leave it out all set up and ready to go. Therefore given time is in short supply and it takes a while to set it up and recalibrate it I tend not to get it out.

I'm thinking at this stage I might sell it prior to Christmas just so I can use the money on something else, and hopefully in a couple of years it will go wireless and be quicker to use.
