I'm thinking of importing an HK PS3 but I heard that updating it here scews it up, can anyone confirm this? Preferably from someone who has imported and updated it here, done a lot of searching already. And I heard somewhere that AUS/NZ PS3 games will be region locked?

Biggest problem will be the ntsc/pal difference. This is normally hardware based as far as I know so not something you can overwrite with firmware.

Games are not region locked at this stage.

I have a HK PS3 & updated to the latest firmware 2.36 (from 2.30) - no issues. Just ensure your TV is NTSC compatible.
