Just wondering if anybody can help me please

Currently playing Ark on NA server and getting 140-190 Ping

Running Fiber Max

My Friend on VDSL is getting 50-70 Ping.

Can anybody help what could be causing my ping issues?

Thanks

There is no way possible to get less than 150-160ms to NA from NZ currently.
Light itself takes 70ms for the round trip without taking into account electronic hardware and that's of course assuming that whatever medium transports the signal takes the shortest straight line route, and there's no other devices like repeaters or similar that artificially increase the length...

Here is Akamai LA to Sydney, minimum of around 144ms:

GoodSync. Easily back up and sync your files with GoodSync. Simple and secure file backup and synchronisation software will ensure that your files are never lost (affiliate link).

Not sure what he is doing, but he is not getting 60ms to USA. Maybe the IP or site he is testing to has a local CDN node that he is pinging when he is thinking he is pinging USA mainland.

Are you gaming over Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Your friend and you in the same location in NZ? Either you're not playing on a NA server or hes hitting a different server. 40ms is the time it takes to get across the US, you can't go over the pacific ocean in 50ms. I have not seen anyone get lower than 120ms reliably in uncontrolled conditions.

Thats irrelevant when the OP's friend is pretending he has bloken the laws of physics.

To help everyone here, @OP what are you playing and from what connection.
Please provide us a trace route.

Thanks

Well in that case I would say the application is incorrectly reporting.

I get 60ms in Overwatch, but thats "local" servers, def don't see anywhere near that to US ones. If your friend is streaming, sure his streaming software isnt showing 60FPS ? :)
