Hi.

I have a great Wireless headset for my PS4 and it does work with my Xbox One, but the MIC doesn't work unfortunately (Compatibility issue). I am doing a bit of online play with my Xbox lately, and a headset would be good, but I don't want to spend $300 on another good wireless kit so wondered about a wired one.

I have a dumb and lazyish question. In order for both the headphone AND mic from the headset to work with the Xbox One Controller, do I need a special adapter, or is a single 3.5mm connector from the headset going to work for both?

I tried a google search but I couldn't really find a search term that answered me, thought someone here would likely know off the top of their head.

I was thinking of the CloudX HyperX headset.

As an aside to your question about the 3.5mm TRRS plug on the xbox controller, there are (annoyingly enough) different standards for which part of the plug transmits what signal. If your existing headset is 3.5mm its issue might be because of this. If its USB then ignore.

A headset that is already a single TRRS plug should work straight away on both ps4 and xbox controllers. If the audio works but mic doesnt then it means the mic signal is being sent down the cable wrong, you can buy trrs adapters that flip it correctly.

So, if I understand you correctly, any headset with a 3.5mm TRRS connector, will work fine for both mic and headphones? I don't see many headsets advertising that particular feature!

I'd go with HyperX headsets too.

I had Cloud II for about a year and replaced it with Revolver S. In my opinion, Cloud II offers better bang for the buck. Wirecutter did a group review in April if of interest.
