The other day I got a broadband plan offer from a 2degrees rep, but rejected it.  Now I'm having second thoughts.  Perhaps a full fibre network will give better results than what I'm currently seeing from Vodafone's 900/100 hybrid fibre coaxial cable network.

I get 46ms from BFV servers in Australia and 150ms from Japan.   I was wondering if ping times get any better from other providers here in Christchurch?

Short answer, probably not.

You can expect to continue to get those pings no matter what provider you are with.

It would be good if this can be confirmed by someone with BFV in Chch.   I've been using the same hybrid network since 2002 and don't know if others are getting better, worse or same latencies in my region.

It won’t make any difference at all in terms of your gaming HOWEVER moving from Coax to actual fibre will give you a speed boost in the upload department and better reliability.

46ms to any game server o/seas is pretty good.

You obviously were not around for the good old days of WoW with a 300ms ping being standard :D

Sounds like desperate times.  HalfLife 2 Team Deathmatch had latency issues, but it can't have been anywhere near 300ms as the hit reg mostly worked, and things didn't teleport all over the place.

Anywhooo....  I'll stick with Vodafone's hybrid network then.  I was hoping someone would get better than 150ms to Japan servers or the U.S. West Coast servers so I don't feel guilty playing on them after changing ISP.  "Oceania" has too few populated BFV servers these days.
