I'm looking at a few different HOTAS joysticks, and I've come across the X56. It's a pretty good HOTAS joy from what I've read, and much cheaper than the thrustmaster warthog (although the warthog is on my some day wish list). The only problem is that the X56 series were made in two batches. One by Saitek when they were owned by Mad Catz, and one when they had been bought by Logitech, blue/black and grey/black respectively.

Mighty Ape has one, but the picture is blue/black, which means either it's old stock made under Mad Catz rule, or the picture is old. So maybe it's time to head to PB.

In any case, what joysticks do you have, and how would you rate it?

P.S.: X-Plane 11 > FSX

Have a look at VIRPIL Controls.

Pricey, but probably considered the best of breed currently.

Oh my. Those are beautiful. If only I had the patience to wait for them!

I was an avid virtual pilot for a few years, but eventually got tired of the level of admin needed to keep FSX and the millions of tweaks and add-ons running and stable, so I drifted away from it.

For some reason, I never got into X-Plane...partly I suppose because all my scenery and favourite planes were for FSX.

I was therefore very surprised and tentatively excited to hear about the new MS Flight Sim! I have signed up for the Alpha...

If you're flying around NZ, try Lyndiman's orthos for NZ. It's a 500GB scenery pack. There's also Ortho4XP. If you ever decide to jump into XP11, flick me a PM! I'd be up for a few NZ based flights :P

The new FS looks amazing. They did admit in the Ars article, they were pretty beefy systems running it.

I wouldn't doubt it. There's a massive amount of data MS would be streaming to you every second. Hopefully it keeps up with 900/400!
