i've picked up a bunch of ps2 games from the states - any advice on the easiest way to play these on a nz bought system (if this is possible) would be welcome :)

The easiest way would be to have a modchip installed. I use the Modbo 760 and have had no trouble with it.
There are quite a few being sold on trade me for about $25-30. Installation is about $50,

Or cheaper but very annoying is by using swap magic.

The Memor32 looks promising. This is a modchip on a memory card but at the moment requires a bit of work to get games working. This will change hopefully.

You could buy a US PS2 off ebay

If your computer is pretty decent, you could try the PS2 Emulator, PCSX2. It runs a few of my games quite nicely.
