Hey guys, now that RDR2 is finally out for realz (aa "The way it's meant ot be played", on PC), I thought we should have a thread to discuss our experience.

Ran it last night on a i7 with GTX1080 at 4K. Maxing out at about 30-35 FPS on medium settings... Boy this game is hungry but the graphics are beautiful!

Tried both Story and Online mode and really enjoying it so far.

Anyone else picked it up on PC and started playing?

Played on PS4 and never completed it. So much to do and the graphics were outstanding, but the story bored me to death and I stopped playing around Ch 3 I believe. Moved from that to Spider Man and God of War, two far more superior games in my opinion. Would maybe look to pick it up if it comes on sale and I get some money to upgrade my PC :-)

Not even gonna bother until it's on Steam, and even then I'll probably just linux iso it until some cheap steam keys hit G2A etc. I dislike supporting development studio's that put console ahead of PC, and RDR2 came out over a year ago for console, so as far as I'm concerned it's a 12 month old game and the price should reflect that.

COD4 (not remastered) still sells for top dollar and thats ancient now.

So age dosent play into it unfortunately......

In that 12months though, they have made changes so it looks better etc on PC

They could have put the effort in to release it on PC simultaneously with consoles.. They chose to wait a year and still charge full price, so I chose to make rude gestures at them :-P

Is it a proper HDR implementation on PC or more of the same (i.e. not real HDR)?

This is exactly how it went for me as well. I've read more interesting stories that moved faster in a dictionary, written in a language I don't speak!

Controls also seemed really "laggy". Felt like a life simulator than a game.

Love the game - would love to play on a gaming PC while traveling...

I'm all for companies who take their time to release a product right - it's a great game and once you play through the main story the world gets even bigger!

Easily my favourite game of last year, but as I have zero interest in the online and in the absence of any meaningful single player expansion I am afraid this will also be a "linux ISO" situation for me.

Downloaded it last night. I haven't played the console version so this will be a new experience for me. Open world sandbox games are my thing and I'm sure this won't disappoint.

I started tweaking graphics settings and after a switch from the Vulkan to DX12 api (just out of curiosity) the game won't start. Looks like I'll have to nuke the settings file and start over.

I read something earlier today that even on an RTX 2080 ti you can only run the game at medium-high to get 60fps in 4k.. OUCH.. that's a pretty terrible port.

Nothing wrong with the port, its just targeting a higher fidelity than current gear can fully use.

Seems like Xbox One X (the highest quality version before PC) is running at something approximating medium settings at 4k 30fps.

Plenty of games come out where current hardware is not quite capable of maxing all the settings out.

Rockstar has a history of releasing poorly optimized console ports for PC. They make some great games, but they are a console focused company and it shows.

I'm running on it on a six-year old i5-4570, 16 GB RAM but with a newish RX580 at 1440P.

I'm not a pixel-peeper when it comes to gaming.  Difficult to assess exactly if it's running on low, medium or high graphics settings and what frame-rate I'm getting, I let the game pick its own settings and  it is (now*) running smoothly.  It's an immersive, enjoyable gaming experience and it looks gorgeous.  Taking its toll on my poor old I5 though, cooler is spinning its heart out and generating a bit of heat.

*I did have the issue that many others suffered of frequent freezing.  I applied the Process Lasso fix and played without problems for a good 45 minutes.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
