I thought this might be an interesting thread for the discussion of Microsofts new Flight Simulator which gets released in a few hours.

I have been following the previews (videos) and watching some reviews. I am excited to try it.

100% looking forward to it. but current PC not up to the task so waiting for new AMD CPU series and new Nvidia (21xx or 30xx) series.

Performance will then help decide whats required to enjoy the game.

Been some great videos and it look stunning

Looks amazing, but sadly wont be getting it until I win Lotto - this aging CPU may die just looking at it ;) Video card will be ok though...

Will be interested to see how it is on the xbox series X - information seems to suggest that it would be ok on that platform.

I don't have any PC that is up to the task and I don't play games, but, if it is ok on the Series X when it it released (in November), I may just upgrade the kids Xbox X to the series X.

My 9700K with 32GB memory and a 1080TI should be ok to run it at reasonable settings. In all honesty, I don't game much on my PC any more and am not intending on spending up large to accommodate this game.

Interested to know what gear (sticks, peddles etc) people are using. Seems our options are very much limited compared to overseas.

Going to stick with my old Saitek X52 HOTAS at the moment, might upgrade soon depending on how it holds up.

Hopefully my i7 6700k and 1080ti can run this OK

I started around 12:30 and finished around 3:40.

Gigabit fiber downloading onto a SATA SSD.

Watching my ethernet throughput it seemed to max out around 270 Mbps and average around 90 Mbps, CPU load averaged around 40% and disk usage was barely more than a blip.

I see it's the opposite to most releases where it's available on PC and no mention of console yet. I could get it as part of the Xbox Ultimate game pass, but I think my GTX 780 might struggle with it.

Guess I will have to wait until it comes to Xbox. To be expected for such a beast of a game, I guess, but it still sucks!

Hope you PC master-race folks enjoy it 😜

The minimum specs recommended something like a gtx 770 iirc. you might be able to run it on a mix of low-medium.

So a quick performance update.

PC:

  • i7 6700k
  • 16GB DDR4 3200
  • 1080ti
  • Game installed to Sata SSD

Settings:

  • 2560 x 1440
  • "High" Preset

Performance:

  • Big airports: ~20-35 fps
  • Big Cities (Flying): 35 - 50 fps
  • Open Country (Flying): 45 - 70 fps

The game seems to run reasonably well, have had the odd stutter here and there but mostly smooth.

amazingly even down at ~30fps the game still feels fluid and not sluggish

I am feeling pretty frustrated. I can't get the game to load even. I get a crash to desktop at the first "press any key to start". I've tried a bunch of the troubleshooting. Nothings helped.
