Assume I know nothing about games , which isnt far form the truth!

If I access flight sim 2020 through "steam" ? do I still need a power station pc to play the sim?

same would go for cyberpunk , both of these games the advertising has worked on me !

or in both instances would it be smarter to go to one of the new consoles?

Regardless of which platform you use to purchase a game whether it be Steam, GOG or the Epic games store or somewhere else.

The Computer you use still needs to meet the minimum specs to run the game.

With the availabilty and price of PC parts these days, if you dont already have a computer capable it might be worth investigating one of the consoles.

However be aware that Cyberpunk on console has not been the smoothest and some have likened it to a train wreck.

Cyberpunk seems fine for me on my series X, and I didnt have too many issues on my quick try on my one x. The complaints seem to be from people with the old xbox mostly, and IMO they should just refund them and move on with current gen support but they seem to have sold so many to people on last gen.

Anyway, on PC they will both turn down quite well and give acceptable results on a 970 or a 1060 card with the graphics settings dialed back, those are as low as I would go. Then when you find a 3080 in stock and upgrade it will be a nice change.

I was actually try cyberpunk on a xbox one x as you can pick a box up at the moment (due i guess to them being ended) for 250-350

The Digital version of the PS5 is identical to the disc version. The digital version of the Xbox is a scaled down version. The Series S will really struggle to run Cyberpunk.

Also Flight Sim is not available on the PS5.

Putting Cyberpunk's well documented console issues aside, you might want to think about investing in a PC for gaming if you think you might 'get the bug' for Flight Sim. Flight Sim is kind of a special case, in that people either play with bit a bit then get bored, or fall down a rabbit hole and spend the next 10 years virtually touring the world, building cockpit rigs and such.

If you do fall into the Flight Sim rabbit hole, you'll arguably have a far better long term experience on PC.

Pretty much, I was able to play it at 1080p on a 1060 6G, but it was just okayish.

Cheapest way to get it is to not buy it, just subscribe to Xbox Game Pass for a month or two until you've got it out of your system, then cancel.

I wouldnt get a physical copy of a game anymore, they become redundant so quickly these days and almost always have an update pending the moment you open the packaging.

Id suggest that for a beginner gamer, that doesnt want to spend lots to have a suitable PC for gaming as well as the time to spend tweaking game settings that a console would be the way to go.

However as others have mentioned there is also the part of some titles being exclusive to certain consoles.

If you are going to go down the path of a console, its probably worth looking towards the current generation. (Xbox Series X or PS5)

I think the only advantage to purchasing Flight Simulator 2020 from Microsoft store instead of Steam, is if you purchased it from Microsoft and one day you do purchase an Xbox Series X, you'll be able to play it on the Xbox as well (without having to re-purchase the game).

Flight Sim currently has no Xbox release date.

You need a decent CPU, RAM and GFX card to run FS2020.

Per my signature, i get 60-75FPS flying around NZ, and half that in large international cities.

What specs do you have? Keen to know what I would need. I can't see your sig.

I've been a X-Plane 11 guy and that game is a resource hog.

For flight sims of any sort, I'd stick to using a PC.  But to get decent FPS etc then you will require a decent system as mentioned.

An Xbox, no matter what gen, is going to hit a limit and things will be dumbed down to make it run.

A PC, you can upgrade.

Thanks, not sure why the sig wasn't showing before.

Ouch, looks like Flight Sim 2020 is just as much of a resource hog when you can only get those frame rates flying in NZ. What settings do you use?
