Never owned a headset. Looking at spending about $200

For use on Xbox One. Will probably upgrade to Series X or PS5.

Something like this any good?

I'm thinking to get Microsoft's newish Xbox wireless headset. I hate cables, and would not be able to stand having cabled headphones, let alone plugged into the controller.

I'm only planning to use it with the Xbox One X, so won't be trying to use it for VOIP calls etc..

The reviews for it say that it is surprisingly good, so I would rather put my money (NZ$169) towards an 'official' headset that will be fully supported by Microsoft.

I have a set of these. The sound is fine for me, though there is obviously better out there for more money. There is apparently also a wired version coming for less money. Can recommend.

Yep, they've been released and are now for sale at NZ$99, and more recently there is a 20th anniversary version with transparent plastic on the earcups, if that's anyones cup of tea.

Depends if you’re after closed or open headset. Closed if you have noisy environment, probably one of the hyperx series headsets. Open if you want to have a better soundstage for surround HRTF, probably the Sennheiser PC38x or their EPOS range.

Otherwise if you don’t particularly mind and rather have the convenience, the xbox wireless headset as others have recommended.
