Hi all, looking to purchase an internal SSD for my PS5.

What would you recommend out of the following please?

  • Kingston KC3000 2TB (comes with heat spreader?) $225
  • ADATA Legend 960 MAX 2TB (comes with heat sink) $217

If i go Kingston, would i need to purchase a separate heat sink or is the heat spreader fine?

Or any other recommendations for SSD?

Thanks in advance

ADATA has been solid for me. Can vouch for it.

Im also looking into this at the moment, how do these compare to the
Crucial P3 Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 Internal SSD currently on sale for $213.52 at pbtech ?

Sony recommends a SSD with read speeds of 5500 MB/s or higher. The P3 Plus is only 5000 MB/s

My AData Legend 850 4TB in my PC runs really hot

Can you quantify really hot with some numbers?

Actually, I was looking at the wrong data.. whoops. I'll edit my earlier post.

The AData is the cooler of my two SSDs. It idles on about 32c with the basic motherboard metal cover, which is a flat heatsink. It reaches 60C under heavy load, and after 5 minutes is down to 50C. My SSD slots are not well placed for cooling. My opinion is a small heatsink with fins should keep this SSD cool, so long as there's a reasonable amount of air flowing over it.

The Lexar NM790 4TB under a heavy mixed read / write load is the one that gets quite hot:

  • Without a heatsink it reaches about 85c
  • With a Jeyi Warship Pro it reaches 57c
  • With a Thermalright HR10, label removed, thermal paste on the NAND chips and a thermal pad on the less tall controller,  the peak is about 43c, 14 degrees less

The ThermalRight is a good heatsink, but the fan in it is not very effective. Instead what I've done is set my graphics card fan to 20% minimum, as it happens to be located to blow air across the SSD heatsink, and ramp up the graphics card fan as it gets hotter. When it gets really hot I turn on the Thermalright fan. I'm using free Fan Control to control fan speeds.

I got this ADATA SSD last year for under $200. Installed onto PS5 and has been running really well.

Do you use the heat spreader that came with it? Or do you have an aftermarket heat sink on?
