yea so i have a the Thompson TG585v7 wireless modem/router
that Telecom are offering and i have ADSL 1 as telecom has not put it in
my area =[

so according to speedtest.net:
upload: 644
download: 3841

i host regularly on xbox live [cod 5 WaW] and give every aussie and 80% of kiwis 3 green bars however i do give full 4 bars to some kiwis with mean connections.
Due to the fact that my area will not be upgraded with ADSL 2 technology until 2011 [ =[ ] is their anything else i can do to boost my connections?

by the way i rung telecom about my speeds and according to them the rest of my street is on
upload: 800
download: 8000

so they told me to ring line fault and see if there is a fault or excess traffic on my lines causing the slower speeds...line faults said they couldn't test my line so they said they can send down a technician and if it wasn't me causing the problem it would be free of charge..however they said if its us it's gonna cost $90..
is it worth the risk?

any input would be appreciated.
cheers.

Hi

I really doubt the accuracy of what Telecom are saying regarding what everyone else is on (speed wise).

Really, there is nothing significant you can do, short of moving to another location, or waiting until telecom put in some sort of mini-exchange in order to alow the upgrade to ADSL2.

i assume they must have run some check on my street...
my street has aprox 20 houses all with faster speeds accordingly..
would an upgrade of modem change the speeds or is the 1 i hav now satisfactory?

cheers for ur input.

Well it's definately worth getting a telecom technician to check it out.  Maybe you have some bad copper running to your house that is slowing everything down.

I doubt the modem is the problem, but then again I'm not at all familiar with the model so maybe you might want to do a web-search and find out if there are any issues with it (eg. other gamers having problems that they have linked to the modem).  Modem/routers aren't too expensive these days, so maybe do some more research and find a model that is known to be great for gamers.

Good luck
