Hi!

I am planning my move back to NZ (Auckland) and was hoping to get some recommendations for ISPs. I primarily play Valorant and was wondering if there are any specific ISPs that have better routing/use of cables to Sydney that would provide me with low ping? Alternatively if anyone is in Auckland that plays Valorant can let me know their ISP and average ping that would also help!

Hey! Send me a server endpoint if you know one, I can let you know what the ping times are on Quic Broadband? They run their own network and have pretty good peering in Australia.

Routes are not static and can change on any ISP

That's true. Most ISP's would have near on the same pings to Sydney from Auckland also.

Full results here: https://atlas.ripe.net/measurements/80610709/results

But you can really see how neck to neck all providers are to Sydney. First place is actually a Quic/Vetta probe in Auckland.

Ping times really depend on many factors but it just goes to show how good we've actually got it in New Zealand.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Indeed, remembering the days when 250ms was a good ping on dial-up, and then 80ms was a good ping on ADSL, and these were all to servers hosted onshore in NZ!

25-30ms to Australia is pretty snappy.

One of the biggest factors is which cable is in use. SX and TGA go direct across to Sydney, Hawaiki goes up towards New Caledonia from Auckland before heading to Sydney, which bumps the latency up.
