So went to play a PS4 game today. Popped it in but got a message saying unreadable disc.

Since found out it is all blu ray formatted discs (PS5/4 games / movies) that it won't recognise for some reason it'll still read a standard DVD.

Anyone else has this problem? Better yet does anyone have a fix?

The PS website has suggestions to fix this here and here.

Web consensus is that if these approaches don't work, it needs to go in for repair.

How old is your PS5? Possibility of Consumer Guarantees Act claim (if above fixes don't work and before you take it in for repair)?

Sorry, my email decided that mail from geekzone was now junk. 🤦

I found those solutions and have tried them all. Weird that it still plays DVDs though. Bought in 2021 so I doubt even the cga would cover that long.

I don't use it much tbh, mainly just for replaying my old PS4 games it was handy having a 4k blu ray player. So it's not the end of the world but I wasted money buying my son a game.

It’s been three years since purchase, halfway through the consoles generation. I reckon you have a fair shot considering a game console unable to read game discs is a serious fault.

^^ Agree - I would definitely talk to the retailer about CGA. A console like this should last a lot longer than three years. Most PS4s are still going strong.

I absolutely would be making a claim under CGA with an extremely high expectation of success. 3 years is not a fair and reasonable expectation of lifetime on a device that costs $800.

That's true, both my PS4s are going strong even my first gen PS3 is still going. 🤔
It has occurred to me that I've always thought the disc drive sounded louder than other things, like it's always struggled but just put it down to being a PS5 thing.
