I am going to get 2-4 2nd hand PC games for xmas.  I dont mind if I dont have the latest & greatest.

Have been looking at the following:

Crysis
Bioshock
Gears of War
Far Cry 2
Left for Dead
Call of Duty MW (I already have World at War)

That list gives you an idea of what I like.

Any other suggestions for games that may be 1-2 years old but still good game play?

Which of the above games would you recommend?

Cheers

NOTE PC Specs:
Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz
4GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
Windows Vista Home Premium
24" LCD

Out of that list I'd take:
FarCry 2 - it's better than crysis, as in more fun, plus burning down lots of villages with a flamethrower is cool :)
Left For Dead - really enjoyed this, better as a multiplayer online game though
call fo duty MW - although I've only got it on PS3, the PC version is apparently a port, still worth it in my opinion, but a lot of people have nerd rage at the no dedicated server side of things

What about The Orange box, if you haven't got that already? $69.95 and contains most of the half life series

Or Command and Conquer saga, released a few montsh ago, has every command and conquer game and add on, except Red alert 3 :) for $69.95 too or cheaper if you look round

I definitely recommend the Orange Box, Portal is one of the greatest games I've ever played, and TF2 is a fun multiplayer game with more depth than I first gave it credit for. Modern Warfare is also great, it's on special on Steam at the moment (US$29.95). Left 4 Dead is also fun but I got annoyed with the griefers on there, with only 4 players it makes it a lot easier for them.

Yeah I hadn't considered them, till my gf bought them for me one birthday and i already had half life one, but never finished it.

Oh wait, for my comment about MW, that doesn't apply, I accidentally meant MW2, MW still has dedicated lan + dedicated servers and is a great game

i recently dusted diablo 2 and expansion off and had a whale of a time playing it.

Its an oldie for sure, but the gameplay is addictive as hell with none of the grind reqd by wow.

Did i suggest wow yet????

I can vouch for COD mw 1. Great great online game.

I have friends who play WoW...not sure I want to get into playing it. Wasted far too much time on Oblivion!

Ordered over the weekend, went with:

- orange box
- bioshock
- far cry2

Got from MightyApe. Couldnt be bothered with second hand from TradeMe as would have been 3 lots of shipping charges. MightyApe was free shipping & all games are brand new.

You can check out Torchlight by Runic Games - from the team that created Blizzard North/Diablo. Very nice and easy to play if you like Diablo and gentle on system hardware while still able to deliver awesome graphics. Netbook friendly too.

It's USD20 and can be purchased from Steam or Runic directly: http://www.torchlightgame.com I'm looking to get it soon, you can download the demo and give it a try for couple hours I think.

Torchlight MMO should be out sometimes next year, the boxed retail version should be available in Jan 2010.

Apparently there's DRM wrapped around the game with activation key (for the time being), and there's 3 providers - Steam, Runic themselves and Perfect World. The activation key you get depends on which/where you bought the game from and can't be used on certain download. My recommendation is to get from Runic directly, or use Steam version and activate through Steam.

Runic said, when the games hit retails, there won't be any activation key on retails - whether this will be removed/changed on the online download version, it is unsure.

There's also a guide on how to sync your save games across different system so you can play at any system on the go, currently there's 10 activations to a key used.

Yeah read a little bit about that.

Might give the demo a bash and see how it goes. For US20 i suppose not a hell of a lot to lose really is there?
Seems a bit like wow-lite from what i can gather.

It is very Diablo-like. From Runic Games's forum, the rumour is that, due to imminent Torchlight MMO, Diablo III is said to rehashed from scratch, which is why there isn't any/much news about Diablo III at the moment.
