Hi guys i have a SONY Bravia kDL-W4500 52inch tv

This problem seems to happen only with the ps3 and my pc

The issue that i have is during dark scenes in the game or while watching blue ray movies and when the atmosphere becomes dark i notice the light flickering sorta going dim and it is noticeable and sometimes very hard to see and work out in those dark scenes, but when ever the atmosphere in the game or movie lits, the panel light becomes bright again. let me give a better eg

i was playing Metal gear solid 4 and i was walking in the dessert and everything is fine as soon as i go inside a cave or a house the panel light seems to flicker and go dim and in some occasions it's totaly hard to work out your surroundings but if i keep on walking and if thiers a sun shining through the window in the game it becomes well lit again ?

i have my sky hooked up but i have not noticed this issue yet

any help will be appreciated

basicaly in the game or movie when the atmosphere becomes kinda dark the panel flickers and becomes dim e.g if ur in the shadows but if u go back in to sunlight everything is fine.... weird

If its not happening to you when you watch SKY on your tv - it maybe something wierd.. but definitely light flickering doesn't sound good. have you rung up the place you brought it from and asked what could be the issue?
being a KDL range LCD W Series - I'd say your tv is less than 2 years old, so should be able to get something done about it. It should not be faulting this early in its life.

TURN OFF dynamic contrast.
in SONY it might be called smart names like smart contrast or smart IRIS or something.
(not very smart of sony is it)
nothing wrong with your set.

thanks guys for your input
i have tried turning of motion flow and light sensor and other functions but it is still occurring i have by back light and contrast adjusted to about medium settings

is there any settings on the ps3 that maybe could cause this i have been through system settings etc and i have seen nothing that could relate to this problem

maybe its a bravia engine thing ? that whenever the atmosphere gets darker the panel dims and suits the enviroment etc and if theres light shown it lits back up again

anyway and im going to make that call thanks for all your help guys

It is dimming so they can give you the total bull contrast ratio figures that all tv manufacturers do.

There will be an option somewhere to turn it off. If there isnt then return it as faulty since its making it unusable.

the flicker is a result of dimming a fluorescent backlight - stupid design decisions and cheap dimming hardware mean that almost all LCDs do it, particaully as the lamps wear more.

Oh, and the watermarking on broadcast tv is usually enough to keep the backlight brighter when it is turned on, in addition there is lots of crap just outside the image area that seem to confuse the dynamic contrast on TV's.

NOT contrast, but DYNAMIC CONTRAST - the 2 are completely different things, like manual and automatic transmission. completely different. turn off the dynamic contrast please.
