Hey there,

I just wanna ask,
with no ded servers on mw2, how's multiplay with NZ broadband?
I hear some people saying it's alright, and others saying it's not possible to play with NZ broadband as it lags like hell.
I'm using telecom broadband and i'm on big time plan.
I find COD4 multiplay quite nice even with big time plan, but again it has ded servers..
Anyone out there playing mw2 multiplay on similar conditions?
Is it actually playable with NZ broadband?
I would really appreciate if you can share your general experience on mw2 multiplay.
(especially those who are on big time plan)

Thanks alot. :)

Hi,

I am currently running it fine on a telstra connection, There are times where there is lag, but it is normally due to a bad host (IWNET then moves the game to a new, better suited host)

I find that the automatic server finding does a fairly good job, yes there are times where the host connection times out while waiting to connect to a game, but the next time it works a treat.

I play MW2 every night using Vodafone broadband and get thrown into US servers 90% of the time using Xbox 360. Matchmaking on Xbox 360 & PC is broken. Infinity Ward it working to release a patch to fix this so I get thrown into local/Australian games more rather than Europe or US hosted multiplay. PS3's local multiplay is working fine for MW2.

Someone on Telstra's cable network (2mbps uploads speed) was hosting the game couple of days in a private match and we were 16 players and there was no lag what so ever. I mostly get 1 bar or 2 bars most of the time but it's not as bad as people make out to be.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Just a note, I read that joing a game uses approx 30mb an hour, hosting a game with 10 ppl is 300mb an hour - so be aware of your data caps etc also :)

using big time plan will fail at online gaming.
due to sharing the speeds at peak times, sometimes you will be running at 40kbps or less.
on mw2 i dont seem to lagg at all (on adventure plan) , unless im hosting when ive capped my internet

yeah as above, Big time can't handle it.... I had to change.

I mean you can connect, but it'll take 10-20 minutes to download playlists and then you'll be able to play online....I gave up and went for Adventure as well. rather take 10 seconds to be in a game than 10 minutes.

on big time.

so far, not been able to get past the 'finding playlists' screen, it just stays there for 15-20 minutes doing nothing. (I'm playing on PS3 btw)

done all the port forwarding etc suggested as possible solutions on other forums. (although not sure how to put my PS3 in a DMZ - I'm using the thomson wireless router rpovided by Telecom)

Not sure why it is so bad, since every other game I have played on big time works just fine (Uncharted 2 and Resistance 2 on PS3, Left 4 Dead on PC, all played in the last few weeks)

on Big Time and running COD-MW2 without any issues or lag, sometimes get the bad host but the game does a good job of moving it onto another host.

I've never liked the idea of my ISP capping my speed back to 56k when I go over my limit.  That is why I moved from Telecom to Telstra, I would rather pay for the extra usage than struggle with slow speeds.

I did notice the other night that it was difficult to connect to the Headquarters Pro matches, would get right up to "Awaiting connection..." then time out.  Not sure if it was just due to bad hosts or not.  Seems to work fine now.

edit config_mp.cfg.

Change max ping to 120 from 800.
Change max packets to 100 from 30.
+ other edits like max fps etc.

This makes it a lot better for finding low ping games that run well.
