Morning Guys,

I somehow managed to proceed to open Resident evil 5 yesterday and also accidently clicked on Grid and opened that as well.  They run off the HDD and don't require disks (yes they are genuine).  Both programs stopped working and crashed to the desktop.

Ever since whenever I go into a game I have to turn it to lowest settings and they all run like crap.

Before I could run Grid, RE5, SF4, Just Cause 2 all fine at decent frame rates with pretty high settings

I know something is wrong but don't know where to look.  I have re-installed the drivers for the video card but I think it could be more serious than this.

Any ideas what I can do

My specs are:

Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T6500 (2.1GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache)

Screen Size

4GB DDR2 (2GB + 2GB) (800MHz) expandable to 8GB

400GB (5400rpm) SATA

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4650 (2286MB Total: 1GB discrete memory + 1262MB shared memory with ATI HyperMemory™ technology)

Optical Disc Drive

Premium harman/kardon® speakers

i'm just re-installing gta4 now so that should do DirectX as well?

It almost seems like the laptop has gone into a safe mode (it isn't in safe mode) to protect the video card.  Iv'e never had any probs with it before.

I didn't touch the display drivers so i don't think it can be them, will try anyway though

Given up!

Oh well, looks like a clean install.  Oh the Joy.  Prob about time anyway as 12 months without one.

Now the horrible task of backing up all of my docs

Check device manager and see what it states beside the video card, if it has a yellow exclamation mark remove it from device manager and restart.

You may need to do the above from safe mode.

If it has a yellow question mark then it needs the video card driver reinstalled again
