Hey all,
At the moment I'm rather f***** off because for about the 3rd or 4th time ive gotten into a Modern Warfare 2 server thats unlocked everything and leveled me up to 70 and just completely defeated the purpose of the whole game.....
Can someone please tell me a way to backup my online profile so I dont have to deal with this bulls***
again in the future?...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I'm sorry I can't help you with this - I play MW2 on the PS3 :)

Sounds like the PC servers have quite severe issues..

Then dont connect to hacked servers...IWNet is the only online play supported and only play private games with those you know and trust...

However all your MP profile is stored online in the "Steam Cloud" so if you play with these files, you may have bigger issues...

You need to backup the files in the following folder, not sure what exactly you need but would pay to get it all...

(steam install directory)\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players\

You dont get to choose the server you connect to because Infinty Ward was idiotic enough not to include dedicated servers into MW2. And play in private games on MW2 isnt an option for me as I dont know anyone else that plays MW2 on PC (all my mates have either xbox or ps3)

Yea thanks for the advice. I just copied the whole 'players' folder not long before my account became hacked but im not sure what to do with the folder I copied, Ive tried replacing the backed up folder with the current one but it does nothing sadly :/
Am I missing a step that you know of?

Cant say its happend to me yet and I do play a fair bit...

You would need to open the game properties in steam and delete the cloud files (before you copied them back over). The exit steam, copy over your files and restart steam.

thanks for the tip. I tried that but after Ive deleted the 'local game content' from the 'MW2 multiplayer properties' then replaced the current players folder with my older backup one, (exiting steam in between) I then went back into steam to try play the game but it wouldnt let me till I had downloaded the local game data again :(

Any more ideas?

Juts found this great backup tool that does everything I want to :D
And so far from what Ive read everywhere you cant get banned for using it because you can only edit settings in your config files that the game allows.

Heres a link if anyone wants it, well worth a look :)

mw2 just uses some notepad files in your steam folder to store all your info.
i got 10 prestige in 2mins, just edited my level and total xp. also made my primary weapon scar-h and my secondary scar-h.
the next day, i changed my rank back to prestige 1.

its easy, just change the values in the notepad file. as for backing up, copy and paste it to another location

gz ftw

Nothing worng with steam and I love how it syncs your profiles Laughing - its not actually a steam issue, remeber steam does not host the games...and the issue is dodgy people and their dodgy hacks...
